Details

The problem as described by Dr. David Wales (dw34@cam.ac.uk): "I have installed netscape 6 on an E4000 running Solaris 8. Most things now seem to work, but I am unable to set up mail. All the documentation, and the "wizard", only seems to treat imap and pop3 servers. What about machines with local mail store? This always used to work with netscape 4. Setting server type to "none" in the prefs.js file seems to be a step in the right direction, but I cannot see how movemail is supposed to be set up? Outgoing mail does work, by the way, using server localhost."
on 2001051306 build, 0.9+, for linux, I am unable to create a movemail account. the movemail account converted from 4.x does exist but it's dysfunctional (it used an external movemail application) and I am not able to change movemail settings. When I go to server settings I see IMAP settings in "advanced".
most, if not all, of the problems you listed are known bugs. movemail (as you can tell) isn't officially supported yet and isn't a high priority.
I'm surprised that no mozilla.org people have mentioned it, but there is a page on mozilla.org describing how to get movemail set up. Go here: <a href="http://www.mozilla.org/mailnews/movemail/"> I'd be interested to find out if the person on Solaris 8 runs into bug <a href="http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=95626"> #95626.
As Seth commented, this is simply known to be nontrivial to set up without a UI, and adding a UI for this is already covered by another bug. Hence I'm resolving the bug as FIXED.
