I have requested a Portuguese version of The Den in bug 772418 As a result of a conversation with Jeff B and Pascal about L10n work on the strings for the blog template (in both Portuguese, and a few remaining strings on the Spanish blog, La Guarida) I would like to request that we implement the language packs that Wordpress already has available for the remaining ES strings and the PT strings for the new blog. Nukeador, Pascal suggested that you may have already done this for other ES blogs, and may have useful information for us. The use of these language packs may take care of all of our strings. However, if we still have strings to localize, I submitted an L10n form here: https://wiki.mozilla.org/L10n:Portuguese_Blog
Blocks: 772418
Carmen, you mean applying the wordpress l10n pack for "system" string? That sounds OK for me. Official Spanish l10n pack can be downloaded from: http://es.wordpress.org/ (I see you download all WP files including l10n ones) CC'ing Inma who is our l10n lead, I can't find Hanna (who is coordinating this localization) account on bugzilla.
The language packs from WordPress will localize the admin interface but the theme still needs to be localized separately. It has its own language files in http://svn.mozilla.org/projects/blog.mozilla.com/trunk/wp-content/themes/OneMozilla/languages/ and there are some working examples there, including a partial Spanish file. I'm working with Pascal to get the theme set up in Verbatim but don't know when we'll be able to do that. Hopefully soon. Until we have the theme in Verbatim for community localizers to work on we can use the .pot file to generate a new language file for Portuguese, if someone can work on translation via some other tool like POEdit (which is what I've used).
If you need the Spanish localization of the theme, please let us know and we'll be happy to help you!
Craig/Pascal: Can you please update this bug with the status of where we are at?
I submitted a plugin for security review (bug 778244) and, hurray, it passed! (with minor fixes). This will allow authors and admins to choose a preferred language for the WP admin panel that differs from the language set for the blog itself. Meaning Carmen will be able to administrate the Spanish and Portuguese blogs in her native English. Next steps will be putting the language files along with the plugin into production. I'll commit that code and file a push bug to get it out this week. Then we still need to get the One Mozilla theme localized. It's a separate entity from WordPress, with its own strings and its own text domain. That's been on hold until we can get it into the system so we can turn the translators loose. Localizing the WordPress back-end does give us localized dates on the front-end for free because the date is returned by a WP function, but there are still about 60 inline strings that are part of the theme; things like the footer, 404 page, "Posted by", "%s comments", etc.

I did a localization review of the theme last week. Craig have you finished the press part? Note that I will be on holidays tomorrow evening for 2 weeks, if you need a the l10n review of the press blog while I am away or if you need the po files to be put in verbatim and svn, please ask Milos and Matjazz in the l10n-drivers team.

The press center child theme is in git at https://github.com/mozilla/One-Mozilla-blog/tree/master/themes/OneMozilla-PressCenter. It has its own text domain for just a handful of strings, but most it will inherit from the parent theme. I haven't had time to work on blog themes yet this week, but I'll try to have it ready for you to review tomorrow. Apologies for the delay.

I don't think this bug should be the webmaker.org product (as interesting as it is to read about)

I added this to our sprint ready backlog and we will plan on getting this resolved in January 2013.
Can we get an update on this bug? Winston and I would like to know next steps so we can help prioritize. We'd like to get it moving.
bensternthal/craigcook: Can you take this? It has been open too long without a clear direction.
Pascal is working on theme l10n over in bug 772418. Once we have it translated we can set up the new blog in a matter of minutes. The standard language packs are already in production. I'll file an IT bug to get the Spanish Den switched to es-ES and activate the admin language plugin, and we'll need to do the same for Portuguese when the time comes.
Closing this bug , since it's been almost a year. If a need arises, we'll reopen
