For users with vision issues removal of the lines also makes it difficult to see a bookmark or tag related to the searched text.

Sorry for spam, forgot to add the text.
vote for this.

I think the most serious drawback is you got confused with description and URL without the separator

like:

Mozilla
www.mozilla.com
Mozilla 2
www.mozilla2.com
Mozilla 3
www.mozilla3.com
Mozilla 4
www.mozilla4.com

vs.

Mozilla
www.mozilla.com
------------------
Mozilla 2
www.mozilla2.com
------------------
Mozilla 3
www.mozilla3.com
------------------
Mozilla 4
www.mozilla4.com

Not easy to tell "Mozilla 3" is description of the URL above or below it in the first version
Once you hover that bookmark star , you can easily tell to which page it belongs to. Same for the names. There is no browser which relies on separators in search results now , be it IE9 , Chrome , Opera or Safari. I know the change is disturbing but as such it doesn't cause too much of problem , as hovering the items solves the problem.

Can't agree.
Filtering by eye is way more faster than mouse hover then tell.

Firefox have been the best URL bar since 3.0, we are out-standing in this part, it's backward if we make change to confuse users because "that is what other browsers do".

And Firefox is the only browser show candidate in dual-line: URLs & descriptions, other browser don't need a separator because they have nothing to separate, just one line one item.

I disagree. I liked how i was able to tell stuff apart at a glance, this is in fact disturbing.

Also as mozilla developers often say : just because one browser does it, it doesn't mean firefox has to as well.
No way, those lines were distracting and not in line with platform design (at least on Windows 7). I'm glad that they finally are gone. This is best done in a theme for those who may have issues - but why try getting used to it first?

Distracting? How can you say that? They were very faint grey lines how could they possibly be distracting. You have to explain that.

And you can't compare the awesome-bar with windows explorer or any other application's drop-down menu, they are not an equivalent type of components.

I don't understand what is to be gained by removing them, they are unobtrusive and helpful. Sure I will resort to a CSS script if needed, but I'm sure that I'm not the only one who dislikes this change and I fail to see any good reason behind it. I am really looking forward to the response of the developers, whichever it might be.
Having some eyes problems I somehow sympathize with your point, though this is really something for UX team to evaluate.

Can someone link me to the bug(s) which encompasses all the recent awesomebar UX tweaks (highlighting terms, line removal, background color change... )?
So Bug 587909 is now on beta. Did you get any feedback regarding this issue?
Any chance someone could check this out and provide some input soon?

It's already released as part of Firefox 16.
