**** observed with 2001-04-23 build **** Steps to reproduce: - suscribe to dutch, german, japanese and russian newsgoups; - go to german(dutch) newsgroup; - select an article; - go View|message source; -//message source window opens just fine, you can view the source; - go to russian(japanese) newsgoup; - select an article; - go View|message source; //note: message source window is blank and mozilla is trying to save the source file instead of opening it

This is not always reproducible. Marina, could you find out a reproducible procedure?
that's true, it is not always repro but most of the time though i still can not define the cause of it. It didn't happen once in german or dutch newsgroup, it happens all the time in russian (relcom.cinema) and most of the time in japanese
now i think it has someting to do with Auto-detect on/off. When i choose ( for ex for chinese newsgoup)Auto-detect Chinese and and select charset big5 and both are marked then i can view the page source. Because of the drawing of the checkmark problem i have to go through chosing Autodetect and charset twice ( even though the checkmark is present). If i do it only once i can not see the page source
Before I was able to reproduce it once but auto detection was off.
with Auto-detect turned off i can not view the source, to view i have to : turn Auto-detect on, select charset ( twice) and then only view page source
and another observation: after doing all those manipulations ( Auto-detect on/off; viewing source, not being able to view source) i see f.gif as a new folder under news.mcom.com tree
Adding putterman to cc, any news related changes recently?
cc'ing sspitzer
Reassign to putterman, I think this is a part of the problem of bug 77625. ASCII news message view source are shown but the format is broken (for non ASCII message occasionally get the save dialog).

Naoki, the format is not broken if you choose charset Western-ISO-8859 twice. First time you open the source is ascii newsgroup it does look like broken, then you have to go View|Character coding|Western ( even though the checkmark is already there) and reselect it. In that case format is absolutely correct
i think we have to look into the fact that viewing the source of the ascii/non-ascii message could be corrected by re-selecting the charset

the original problem doesn't exist in current builds, except the Auto-detect set to ALL case on Mac, solving as WFM
