User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:14.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/14.0.1 Build ID: 20120713134347 Steps to reproduce: Updated to Firefox 14 from Firefox 13 via Firefox. Upon restart, asks to make default browser. Selected to do so. Every start asks for this. Actual results: Making Firefox default browser when prompted does not register it with Firefox. Clicking links in other applications will open Firefox. Expected results: After accepting to make Firefox the default browser, it should have registered that it is the default and no longer prompt.
Might be related / a duplicate of bug 775280
Upon reading of bug 775280, I am not so sure this is a duplicate or related. The system on that bug is WinXP and is in relation to the usage of a SysInternals PsExec. This bug is strictly an issue with the manner in which Firefox 14 is interacting with Windows 7 (or vice versa). Turning off the notification, in my opinion, is a slight security risk. It is a good way to make sure the default browser is not changed without permission. Thank you for your help.
Also, using the Win7 control panel to set the default programs (and make sure that it has all of its defaults assigned) does not resolve the issue.
Tried this with the latest Nightlies (2012-07-23 to 2012-07-24) and when updating from Firefox 13.0.2 to Firefox 14.0.1. A checkbox with "Always check to see if Firefox is the default browser on startup" is displayed on the dialog that asks you whether you want to make Firefox your default browser. If you simply click the "Yes" button, without unchecking that checkbox, the dialog reappears at every startup although Firefox is set as your default browser. If you uncheck the checkbox before clicking "Yes", Firefox is set as you default browser and the dialog no longer appears at startup.
