It makes no sense to load the download-mobile-FF-page by default. I don't have an Android device, so I obviously want to download the desktop build.

This is a temporary measure to raise awareness of the new version of Firefox for Android. Jaclyn: When should we change this behaviour back to desktop users see desktop content?

It's ok to switch back now. Thanks for checking.

I disagree with the first comment. How do we know that everyone coming the FFX page is there to download a desktop version (instead of learning more about FFX for Android)? Also, I'm not sure it's time to switch it back. Do we have plan / design in place that can present both side by side (an image)? We are nowhere near hitting our goals for FFX Android, and could use all the promotional help we could get. I understand that desktop is the big horse, but we need to identify how we will continue to support the promotion of the Android release concurrently. Thoughts on that?

Agreed that we need to figure out a way to promote both, but I don't necessarily think that putting them both on the same download page is the way to go...these types of pages typically do better if you have one main CTA rather than two. We do, of course, have them both on the /new page but that's a different situation where one is prioritized over the other. Also worth noting is that our desktop goals are also aggressive and need some help. At any rate, Pete & I will discuss offline and then post back here. Thanks.

Please switch this back ASAP. The redirects are there for multiple reasons and: 1. Countless hours have gone into optimizing the /new page for download conversion - of both desktop and the secondary offering (mobile now, beta before). When the Beta program was the secondary offering the /new page was the #1 download source of all engagement campaigns. It's small, but it works really well. 2. This is hurting other Engagement campaigns. We have multiple campaigns running that redirect users to the appropriate landing page that best fits their user experience. /new for people not on the latest version of Firefox. /fx if they are, so they can download Those campaigns include the 3.6 Upgrade campaign, and possibly any paid search. There are probably others I'm not thinking of. There are other UX reasons but I think you get it. Please revert back as soon as possible.

Laura: I think your comment is more relevant to bug 780545. This is about what content should appear on the /fx page. bug 780545 is about where users of old Firefox should be redirected.

Thanks - will update that. For this page /fx mobile is fine. For users not on the most recent version of Firefox, the /new page should be their destination. The Title of this bug is about where users go when they hit mozilla.com, so redirects are part of this. Thanks!

Hi everyone. We really need a decision here! This URL: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/fx/ Is still defaulting to the mobile tab and there seems to be an overwhelming feeling from people involved with the project that it should default to desktop. Can we make a decision here and move forward? Thanks

when you say (the people involved with the project) can you be more specific on who that includes? my understanding from a brief read of the multiple threads above is that there is not a significant impact to the current download process or campaigns. is that correct? my vote - in light of the planned September snippets - is that we continue to promote FFX for Android on this page. We can revisit for October once the September promotion is finished thanks

(In reply to pscanlon@mozilla.com from comment #11) > when you say (the people involved with the project) can you be more specific > on who that includes? Sorry about that, I was using "project" loosely. We have people approach us across the Mozilla project (internal+external including the Firefox team) were asking why when they are on desktop in Firefox that they are pushed Android. I explained the rationale and they said they understand, but don't agree that it should require a second click to get the desktop version. What we have heard is that the page could be designed to highlight both without having to click another tab to get the desktop version. What if we define a date now when we will switch back to the desktop view for desktop users?

thanks Chris. My understanding is that the current Firefox page discussions Christie is a part of them, along with Laura F, John S. and a few other key folks) will look to present all Firefox offerings in one frame (and will allow us to remove the tabbed version). Desktop will be the primary call to action for desktop users. We do not yet have a date for that project, so your suggestion is the right path to take. My understanding is that the last Firefox / android snippet will finish the week of October 1 so Monday OCtober 8th should be a good day for making the desktop tab the main message on the screen. Will let you know if anything causes that date to change.

I'd like to propose immediate (next week) action take place on one sliver of this bug where a legitimate leak is apparent. User Story: give Firefox users on a outdated version a easy way to upgrade to the latest version. Proposal: Redirect users on Fx 14 or below here: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/fx/#desktop The number one priority for this set of users should be letting them know they're on a outdated version, and giving them a easy way to upgrade. By showing a Mobile promotion instead, we're missing the opportunity to do this. Action: Holly and Chris -- I imagine you are the owners of this. Let me know what you think. I don't think we can afford to wait for the whole redesign project to launch. Let's create a side-bug and get this done.

Webprod: Is it possible to do something dynamic on /firefox/fx to default to the #mobile tab when you are running the latest version and anything older than the current release channel than it should default to #desktop. Can we grab the info from product default so this logic doesn't have to be updated every 6 weeks?

We could also redirect non uptodate Firefox users to http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/. This is where 3.6 users are currently redirected. I'd actually prefer this to keep the rules of the game simple.

Check out this comment I just made: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=797503#c1 Some of this will be obsoleted by the work that :habber is doing with the Firefox funnel pages.

Since this is a pretty big leak and a relatively easy redirect fix it would be great to get this use case corrected soon.

Renaming this to stay on the original purpose of this bug. I'll open another one for old Firefox users.

Pete: As you mentioned on comment 13, we should be good to serve the desktop page now. Can you confirm?

As we continue to: 1. optimize the way we funnel existing Fx desktop users to download (see 829173) 2. want to encourage new Fx for Android 3. work to separate the Fx desktop and Fx for Android download funnels via the Fx Family Funnel project I propose that we close this bug as resolved/won't fix and address it in a more comprehensive manner as part of the Fx download funnel project.
