After being open for a few hours, Firefox starts to use a lot of CPU. Running the profiler two separate times shows a lot of time being spent in set_scrollPosition in toolkit/content/widgets/scrollbox.xml Here is a profile showing the problem: http://people.mozilla.com/~bgirard/cleopatra/?report=70097fae49aa380a25c5ff38ec6d5ec4d7cde3bb This is on Firefox Nightly 17.0a1 (2012-07-23) running on Ubuntu 12.04 on a Lenovo x220
your need to enable stack walking in profiler prefs otherwise your traces lack native stacks, just bear in mind that it may cause stability problems.
Nevermind, this is disabled on Linux. Looks like atleast some of the jank is contributed by etherpad. Resolving this since we can't get a better trace atm.
