I would like to see the Networking preference be under the Advanced category. This would be moved from being under teh Debug category. I would also like to move the FTP "Send this email address" pref moved to this new pane.
Advanced should be the last category, should it not? Cc'ing Matthew to evaluate the current Networking panel. Judging from the apparent complexity of it, it probably belongs in Advanced. If we decide that it does indeed warrant its own category (which would surprise me), we should consider putting Proxies and possibly Cache under it.
This isn't just a request for movement of prefs from one category to another. Because the `Debug' category is included only for debugging purposes, this is a request for the introduction of GUI for these networking prefs into non-test Mozilla distributions. Given that I've never seen any other Web browser offer GUI for these options, and that the trend is for such arcane options to decrease over time (Mozilla hasn't had a GUI for `number of simultaneous connections' for some years now), I'd like to know why the reporter thinks these networking prefs would be useful for anything except `debugging', which is where they already are. The only option I can see in this panel which could possibly be useful is the `Enable html directory listing' pref. And I think that should be in the `View' menu (`as Links', applying to Web pages as well as directory listings), not in the Preferences. Eventually the `Advanced' category of prefs should go away altogether. By this I don't mean that all the options under `Advanced' should lose their GUI, but that `Advanced' is a silly way to categorize prefs which should be categorized by topic instead.
what prefs need to show up? Some of the debug ones should probably stay debug, as mpt suggests.
