Description

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:14.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/14.0.1
Build ID: 20120713134347

Steps to reproduce:

Refresh page (any page) with web console open

Actual results:

Depending on the page in question it can take 1-3 clicks of the refresh button, after which the app will crash. I don't have to do anything else.

Expected results:

Not that.

I am wondering if it could be awry settings in about:config (I may have fiddled with settings in the past in there and it may have finally come to bite me--or not--in any event the app shouldn't crash due to this).

I would submit the last entries of the web console prior to crash if I knew where that file was (if it indeed logs to a file), I couldn't find this info on google.

Can you provide the crash ID from about:crashes?
Does it happen in Safe Mode (see https://support.mozilla.org/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode)?
Does it happen with a new profile (see https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles)?

Here's a newly generated crash report, refreshing google.co.uk with web console open, causing an instantaneous crash:

Yes.

No.

This is just a wild stab, but the layout of my default profile (arrangement of buttons & menus etc.) is very different to when I loaded in safe mode or under a new profile (presumably inherited from older versions I have had installed in the past), I'm wondering if that might be related to the bug if the code is assuming things about the UI that are actually variable.

Also my user profile keeps its files stored on a separate partition and not the default directory.

It's bug 764342.
Can you attach your about:support page to that bug?

How do I attach it? Also that page has links on it in turn, would they be included in the file?

Should I workaround this bug by regressing to version 12?

Click https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?bugid=764342&action=enter. The links won't be included.

Refreshing Web Console is not a common surfing task. In addition, the workaround is to use a new profile (you can recover important information from your old profile as explained in the above article).
Be aware that old versions have known exploitable vulnerabilities (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vulnerability_%28computing%29):

Alright done.

I assume you mean refreshing a page to which the web console is attached...? I would have thought that is a very common thing, perhaps not when surfing but during web development certainly...

That's not an ideal workaround for me since it's where all my bookmarks and settings are at. Is there a way to launch two instances of the app with different profiles? By default it checks for an existing process and will only let you launch one.

Please check out the article about profiles. You can have several profiles, transferring some pieces of information from one profile to another...
You need to log in before you can comment on or make changes to this bug.
