As noted by Yanski on the mailing list, `observer-service` methods doesn't accept object anymore, but only functions.

In accordance with the docs, we used to support both, so I believe this is a regression introduced by this commit:

We should fix the regression, or if it was intentional, update the documentation.

I removed the observer-service in bug 958908.
