(Whiteboard: [add-on idea])

User Agent: Opera/9.80 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; U; de) Presto/2.10.289 Version/12.00

Steps to reproduce:

I read an email and want to store parts of it's text in an existing (*.txt) file.

Expected results:

Mark the concerning text - RMB - select 'add to (the end of) file' - choose file where to add the text - done.

Extend the function: all marked parts of the email text are stored as described above.

Nice guys, unbelieveable quick response.
Seems it's worth, to brake my enjoying silence and place my suggestions.

This seems like something that might do well as an extension.

Right, and how do we indicate that on the bug?

- not resolving this bug and leaving as unconfirmed is obviously bad and inefficient
- confirming is wrong because actually we don't want this in core at this time (maybe later if the extension flies well)
- rejecting "wontfix" is wrong because we actually like the idea, we just don't want to invest time for doing this in core
- then what?

Another case in support of Bug 522873, and Bug 577944 respectively.
Or any other solution like a keyword that lets us tag this sort of rfe for later retrieval.

Well we won't fix it. So wontfix is perfect.

Unfortunately, wontfix isn't perfect because it will make this potentially nice idea disappear among thousands of other ideas that have been wontfixed because they are bad ideas. Per Jim's comment 2 this idea "might do well as an extension" but we have no way of indicating in a systematically searchable manner that this is a useful idea that could / should be picked up by extension developers.
Let's use "[extension idea]" in the whiteboard.
Whiteboard: [extension idea]
[add-on idea] is far more common
