User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_8_0) AppleWebKit/536.11 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/20.0.1132.57 Safari/536.11 Steps to reproduce: launched firefox 14.0.1 -on iMac i7 running 10.8 Actual results: no browser window on launch and no window on selection of new window from firefox menu so i installed older version of firefox 13.0.1, was able to launch and see a browser window. it seemed to work correctly. Went to about firefox tab from menu - firefox detected and updated with newer version of firefox - resulted in same problem - no browser window available Expected results: should get a browser window
(In reply to Matthias Versen (Matti) from comment #1) > Please try it with http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode I followed the instructions on the page linked to above. Things did not get better. From the help menu I chose Restart with add-ons disabled. Then the menu items disappeared , so along the top line was the apple symbol and the word Firefox. clicking on Firefox shows the usual menu items, but there is not file ..... help menus. I noticed that from the dock, firefox was "lit up" or active. right clicking on the firefox logo on the dock gave me the normal menu. I chose New Window. At the top of this menu all open windows are listed - I can create a number of open windows according to this list, but I do not see any firefox windows. More strange stuff - clicking on Firefox logo on the doc - changes the focus to Firefox program and all menu items (across the top of a window) are available right clicking on Firefox logo on the doc shows a popup menu choosing from the list of open windows from this popup menu (assume 4 open windows) - if I choose the window at the top of the list all menu items (across the top of a window) disappear - if I choose the window at the bottom of the list all menu items disappear - if I choose either of the two middle windows from the list then all menu items remain available and I can choose any of the menu items - but can see no effect. Does not one else have these symptoms?
The problem is fixed. I ended up installing the last version Firefox 13, and kept it along with version 14. I was able to use version 13. Version 14 was unusable see above. At some point version 13 upgraded itself to version 14, which is now working very well. Perhaps it was a bad install? Or in the event someone fixed my problem - Thank You.
