Details

(Whiteboard: [datalossy][dupeme])

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:14.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/14.0.1
Build ID: 20120713134347

Steps to reproduce:

Was asked to compact, I chose compact now

Actual results:

I had several emails open in tabs waiting for action from me or someone else. This is one method I use to keep track of what's pending. When I compacted, all the tabs froze. No matter which email I clicked on, it had the content of the last tab. Before I realized what was going on, I had close a couple tabs thinking I had the same email open more than once. I tried going to recently closed tabs but got nothing. I rebooted my system. When I opened thunderbird only 1 email tab was open and there's no list under recently closed. Now I have no idea what emails were open awaiting action.

Expected results:

My opened email tabs should not have been affected.
Summary: Compacting froze, then closed my taps → Compacting froze, then closed my tabs
Did this happen in version 13?
Severity: normal → major

Isn't this related to the fact that we are currently still reusing the same instance of window elements on different tabs, which then gets disturbed if compacting is underway?

I apologize for omitting my version number. I'm using Thurderbird 14 on XP sp3.
