Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_6_8) AppleWebKit/537.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/21.0.1180.57 Safari/537.1 Steps to reproduce: Tools -> Account Settings -> Account Actions -> Add Mail Account Actual results: Mail Account Setup window appears. Problem is the Re-test button is a NOP (no operation). Looking at my IMAP server logs, Re-test never generates any i/o, so new accounts can never be created for customer IMAP configurations (as in alternate ports + SSL + Auths). Expected results: Re-test should actually probe the IMAP server to see if the change has resolve the config, so the new account can be created.

As always with Thunderbird, the fix is to roll back to Thunderbird-2.0.0.24 which works flawlessly.

Found an ugly work around. Uploading a video to YouTube right now that demonstrates the problem. Workaround... 1) Progress to the final panel of the New Account Wizard 2) Edit all IMAP related info to be correct. Once IMAP setting is toggle to SSL, then Re-Test actually his server again 3) Once complete, Done button will ungrey, hit Done then fix other problems in settings window for account Keep in mind SSL SMTP tests fail, so you must leave SMTP set to port 25 (which is a NOP when Re-Test hit). Will update ticket with YouTube video walk through when upload is complete.

Best fix is to roll back to Thunderbird-2.0.0.24 which works fantastic. Setting up new accounts... just works... no muss + no fuss...

Your video sort of undercuts your message of "the fix is to roll back to Thunderbird-2.0.0.24 which works flawlessly" since it took someone who obviously knows what he is doing about 10 minutes of messing around, while watching server logs, to get TB 2 to create the account. That is not my definition of "flawlessly". I stopped watching the video after about 22 minutes, so I may have missed your main message. Still, for several versions now secure setup has no longer worked in the account setup wizard for me, so I have to revert to no security in setting up my test accounts. The similarity for me is that I also have to enter manually my user name "kent@caspia.com" instead of relying on the default of "kent". I've never had the time to trace out what is failing here. The account wizard obviously works in some configurations. It would be helpful if you could narrow the range of success and failure by showing something that does work as well as something that does not work, and get them as close as possible. Like, is it the SSL setup? Or the username change that causes the issues?

Please give a proper reproduction, with *every* click and every keypress you make. That includes especially the concrete domain / email address you use (replace the front part of the email address with "something@"). This might be a DUP of bug 755988, where SMTP SSL is broken and breaks the manual re-test.

Well that's interesting ... I had not tried a normal account setup in a very long time. I tried my usual test account on a new profile (EarlyBird 16) and it just worked! Got the STARTTLS and the correct "kenttest@caspia.com" username and everything. So I no longer have a complaint.

I've left the account active for anyone in development who'd like to try and fix this. IMAP Server: bizcooker.com IMAP Port : 993/SSL/Secure Authentication == off User Acct : test@coolsurf.com User Pass : test23test SMTP account is the same user/pass on port 465. Emailing through this SMTP server using test@coolsurf.com will return a message... Thanks for e-mailng $block to debug Thunderbird bug #781253... This allows both IMAP SSL + SMTP SSL to be tested via the new account wizard.

I notice setting up gmail accounts works fine. My guess is problems only arise when setting up other servers, where 'other' means servers which have no 'special' setup info for the wizard.

Simple fix would be to put "Manual Config" on the first panel of the Wizard which takes a person directly to the "settings" window... ala the 2.0.0.24 way of account config.

Thanks, David!
> SMTP account is the same user/pass on port 465.
Ah, this is a DUP.
