User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_6_8) AppleWebKit/536.11 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/20.0.1132.57 Safari/536.11 Steps to reproduce: Simplest repro is below: <html> <head> <title> WTF </title> <style type="text/css"> .row { overflow: hidden; } input{ font-family:inherit; font-size:inherit;} </style> </head> <body> <form> <div class="row"> <input name="ram" value="1" type="text"> </div> <div class="row"> <input name="ram" value="1" type="text"> </div> </form> </body> </html> Note that many CSS resets set font-family and font-size to "inherit" for input elements. Actual results: Mouseover second input will cause it to flicker in and out of view. Sometimes only cursor will be visible. Sometimes text will be visible but all else transparent. Sometimes everything will disappear. Expected results: Both inputs should remain visible at all times.
Can be corrected by setting input elements' "display" property to "block" or to inserting an empty block-level element between the inputs or their containers.

I'm not able to reproduce the bug with the testcase on Win 7 with FF14.
I apologize. I saw this bug on a Mac OS X Snow Leopard. Also confirmed on Lion.
Can you confirm this happens with the latest Firefox Nightly?
Component: Untriaged → Style System (CSS)
Product: Firefox → Core
Yes, it does. thanks
Whiteboard: Stacked <input> flicker onmouseover with overflow and inherited font-size/family
I can definitely reproduce this on the latest Nightly on Mac OSX 10.7, but not on Ubuntu 12.04 or Windows 7, suggesting this is a Mac-specific bug. Thanks for filing, Kyle. Would you be able to test some previous Firefox releases to see if this is a regression? You can find all of our past releases on our ftp server: ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/ Thanks

Summary: If two <input>s (maybe including <select>s) are stacked, have font-size: inherit and font-family: inherit applied, and have overflow applied to their container or containers, the bottom input will flicker on mouseover. → Stacked <input> flicker onmouseover with overflow and inherited font-size/family

This reproduces in 14.0.1 but NOT 13.0.1, so seems like a regression in v14.
(In reply to matth+bugzilla from comment #7) > This reproduces in 14.0.1 but NOT 13.0.1, so seems like a regression in v14. Great, can you work to narrow it down to a 24-hour window? You should be able to use the mozregression tool to do this by giving it a date range of 2012-02-01 to 2012-03-13: http://harthur.github.com/mozregression/ Please let me know if you run into any issues.
Here is an additional test case where the same problem happens when an <input> is stacked on top of a <select>

Thanks, nothing immediately stands out to me as a cause. I'll hold comment for the development team.

Firefox: 50.0a1, Build ID: 20160707083343 User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.10; rv:50.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/50.0 I have tested this issue on the latest Firefox (47.0.1) release and the latest Nightly (50.0a1) build, but I could not reproduce it. The input fields remain visible and there is no flicker when hover over them. Kyle, is this still reproducible on your end ? If yes, can you please retest this using latest Firefox release and latest Nightly build (https://nightly.mozilla.org/) and report back the results ?

Considering the fact that I cannot reproduce this and the fact that the reporter did not answered to my request until now, I will mark this as Resolved-Worksforme. If anyone can still reproduce it, feel free to reopen the issue and provide more information.
