User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:14.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/14.0.1 Build ID: 20120713224749 Steps to reproduce: Entered text and pressed Enter into standard text box in WHMCS, a web based hosting administration program at least. This happens on my Gingerbread and ICS ROMs on the Motorola Droid 3 with the current Firefox Beta on the Google Play store as of 2012-08-13. Actual results: Firefox seems to press backspace at the same time. That is, it deletes the character to the left and then goes down a line. This means that, to go on the next line, I always need to type in a dummy character and then press enter. Enter doesn't seem to work at all unless there is some text that it can delete. Expected results: No characters should have been deleted and the caret should have simply gone down a line.

Which keyboard? Does this still happen with Firefox nightly? The build can be found at http://nightly.mozilla.org/ install the "Android" apk.
This occurs with the Motorola Droid 3 physical keyboard. This *does* still occur with the Firefox nightly. I have thus updated the version number in this report to 'Firefox 17' - please change if necessary.

Just to confirm, this doesn't just happen with WHMCS, but with (from what I can tell) any standard textarea. For instance, this 'Additional Comments' box in BugZilla has exactly the same problem.

Is this still a problem? Will similar things happen if you type using an on-screen keyboard, or does it depend on specific hardware?

Sorry - it's been years since I've used Firefox on Gingerbread so I can't retest this. If there hasn't been much activity on this issue (which was quite urgent at the time) then I can't imagine it's a problem any more.

I guess it's working - we don't really have enough information anyway
