Please explain why you want to disable tabbed browsing.

I do not like (can't stand) tabbed browsing. It has become the default with no option to disable it. The pull down menu when right clicking on a link starts with 'Open In A Tab' - which I keep doing and then need to close that and open the link in a new window.
If I do not want a feature there should be a way to disable it - if you can turn off security, surely you should be able to turn off tabbed browsing :-).

Try this:
Edit->Preferences->Browser->Link Behaviour.
Set all settings to use new windows.

Is this a joke? My Firefox 14.0.1 does not have Preferences or the other items in the Edit menu or eleewhere.
I have the same problem with Firefox 14.0.1. on my second desktop PC. Unlike all previous versions it won't disable tabs when I unchecked all the boxes in Tools - Options - Tabs.
On my main desktop PC this works fine as before so this might be a bug rather than Mozilla's removing this option. If the latter, I'll return to Internet Explorer.

If you have same problem in Firefox, fill separate bug for it
A friend reports that his newest FF 14 offers the following option at the bottom of the Tabs menu.
Hide The Tab Bar
Never | When I have only one tab | Always
In the meantime I uninstalled FF 14 and replaced it with FF 12, unchecked all the available Tab options and the tabs are gone.

This is a SeaMonkey bug. If you have problems with Firefox you need to file a separate bug in the Firefox product. Go to: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=Firefox
