We should take all the test speedups for sync2.0 from ug 777157 and backport them to sync1.1. This may need to wait until we factor our a common database-access library for them both to share.

Unless we see some evidence that we're not driving towards sync2 (and currently it looks like we are), I don't think this will be worth the effort.
