While looking at bug 784914, I went to check the update log via prefs -> advanced -> history.
I've only got 9 entries, with the last being from May 30th (Nightly 15.0a1 / 2012-05-30-132002). (A connection-timed-out status, fwiw).
Attached is my updates.xml. Oddly, the timestamp indicates it was last modified today when I last launched the browser, but I don't see any new entries. File and directory permissions look correct.

Not sure why the log isn't being updated with new entries though it does sound like updater might be crashing on your system causing bug 784914. It is written to by Firefox itself and not the updater which is why it would be when the browser was last launched. I suspect this is due to bug 784914.

Seems to be working. The update log shows 11 items from the last couple of weeks.
