785672 - Nightly auto update fails

When I click the notification that tells me there is a new build available, the following happens:

* Firefox becomes active
* It tries to load the following URL: alert:/-297100515?name=update-app&app=org.mozilla.fennec.App&cookie=

Then nothing happens. Firefox just sits there and the loading spinner keeps spinning.

I wonder if this has something to do with the fact that I started playing with the Marketplace?

Logcat output attached for:

1) Open notification tray
2) Click download firefox update
3) Firefox opens
4) Shows that alert:/ url and runs the loading spinner
5) Nothing happens

What build do you have installed?
Are you on an android armv7 phone or some other device?
Is anyone else seeing this?

If this is an issue with updates, this is a RelEng bug; if it's a problem with the alert, it's a dev bug.

I'm on a Galaxy Nexus phone with Android 4.1.1.

This is 17.0a1 2012-08-24.

Sometimes the dialog opens, but when I click OK it will not actually start the download.

Is this something we want to investigate further? If not then I'll just do a clean remove/install.

Looking on the server to see if I can find a problem with August 24's nightly.

The latest en-US snippet looks correct; all mozilla-central nightlies will look to that as the source of truth.

I moved away the 8/24 directories (two of them) in case they were interfering in some way.

Is there any improvement?

Yes! The update just came through successfully. I am now on Nightly of the 27th.

I'm going to chalk this up to bug 686337.
