As the UX mockups shows:

Some add-on / widgets needs to be displayed into the location bar rather than add-on bar (e.g. F1 / Firefox Share).

Yes, it's part of the work I'm doing right now. I'm also going to publish the API proposal this week – I'm polishing it.

Instead, I'd like to involve you in the toolbar component type (bug 787390) API proposal, let me know when we can have a meeting!

Summary: Add "Location Bar"'s widgets type → Add "Location Bar"'s button type
What is the scope of this bug? is it simply about allowing widgets in the location bar?
Don't use the term widgets anymore for this kind of components, otherwise it will be confusing with the current widgets we have :)

There are still a couple of things to be decided in the API proposals, you will see this week when I will updated it; however you can think about this Location Button mostly as an Action/Toggle Button (see bug 787392) that is displayed in the location bar instead of navbar.

I said mostly because they're not quite the same, but they share most of the capabilities.

Hey Matteo, are you working on this one? if not could you please unassign yourself.

Not working on this anymore; WebExtensions will have this functionality – Page Action – so it should be possible for SDK users to use them too. See bug 1237377.
