Description

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:15.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/15.0
Build ID: 20120824154833

Steps to reproduce:

I had about 20 tabs open. Many of them are easily recoverable. Some of them, about half a dozen, are *NOT* recoverable. They were individual forum posts that I intended to reply to later but until then leave them open as separate tabs.

How this happened... I am occasionally annoyed by Ctrl-E opening a 'Bing' window. (I use a text editor in other SSH telnet windows that use Ctrl- keys. Once in a while I accidentally hit Ctrl-E in a 'normal' web page textarea type box, and it throws up the Bing on the screen.) So I was researching Ctrl-E and saw mention of Ctrl-Shift-E and Tabs Groups, which I had never heard of before.

Actual results:

I hit the Ctrl-Chift-E and whammo all by tabs disappeared and a screen titled Group Your Tabs appeared. I did nothing there, and eventually found the Exit icon. (Why there is no conventional Menu to work in there I have no clue but that's another story.)

So after it exited about *2/3* of by tabs did *NOT* reappear. Gauging by what was left I'd guess that the tabs that were directly -visible- on the screen in the tabs bar at the time I hit the Ctrl-Shift-E came back, but the ones that had slid off the left side were gone. The typical 'v' icon at the right end of the tabs bar wasn't there, because there were no tabs other than the visible ones. I added a few new blank tabs to make that 'v' appear, and when selected showed none of the 'discarded' tabs.

Expected results:

Simple said, don't throw away my tabs. Further, is there *ANY* way to recover those tabs?

The is about the first and only *SPECTACULARLY* annoying oddity I have *EVER* seen going back to NN1.2

The tabs I lost are *NOT* recoverable by memory. They were from various threads that go back a couple of days. Many new posts have been added to those threads that push the ones I was going to reply to back by several pages, and I'd have to read the entire contents of *DOZENS* of pages again to find the ones I was going to reply to.

I'm looking at History but that lists everything I looked at not just tabs I'd left open.

Never had this in Tab Groups, and I use it easily dozens a time per day. You probably closed an entire tab group at once trying to remove it from the screen (a close button is not an exit button !).

You do know that there's a "Recently Closed Tabs" entry in the History menu ?

Please test with the basic troubleshooting steps:

1) Start Firefox in safe mode: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode

2) Try with a new profile (don't import anything): https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles

Does you issue still reproduce in these cases?
