789993 - provide better debugging information for failed updates

When debugging failed updates it's almost impossible to figure out what is going on without requesting additional information from the user. Generally, we ask for updates* from the appdir and for the user to set app.update.log to true and paste the error console contents. If we displayed more information in the About dialog (which users often attach when filing a bug), or provided a link that they could click on to get more useful info, these sort of problems would be easier to debug. This would be especially helpful for hard to reproduce problems. bug 789958 is the most recent example of this.
