IRC chat retrieves messages from server even if it was disabled

Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; sk; rv:1.9.2.28) Gecko/20120306 Firefox/3.6.28
Build ID: 20120306064154
Steps to reproduce:
I added 2 IRC accounts to Thunderbird 15 - one on irc.freenode.net and second on GameSurge.net. When I used Miranda IM, server log was a bit spammy, so I disabled it here in Thunderbird 15 account options.
Actual results:
IRC chat still retrieves messages from those 2 servers.
Expected results:
IRC chat should ignore messages from server and don't show them in Conversations.

Can you open the options again and make sure the preference still says it's disabled?

Are you seeing the actual tab show up that shows you the message of the day, etc. or are you seeing other things (maybe NickServ, etc.)? Can you be more specific about which messages it should ignore? (Feel free to provide a screenshot if it's easier.) Thanks!
(Also, just so you know...we receive the messages no matter what, it's a matter of whether we display them or not. :))

Yes, the options still has the checkbox unchecked.

Well, you're right - messages from irc.freenode.net come from NickServ. Messages from GameSurge.net come from similar sender (though I'm not sure at the moment - I closed it the last time :)).
So this would require implementing some kind of ignore system. Miranda IM had it, but sometimes such messages "leaked" into regular channel message log.
Please don't make me go back to Miranda :( I really like the current setup - mail, RSS and chat in one application. When I first heard that Thunderbird 15 would have chat, I was excited - it even forced me to upgrade from old Thunderbird 2.x!

Yeah, I see that it was not very correct description of the problem :(

Right, so that option is unrelated to NickServ, etc., it's simply about messages from the server itself.

Bug 776901 should handle this case, it's targeted for Thunderbird 17. (Assuming the messages you're seeing are about properly logging in.)

We haven't implemented any code to handle this, if you want we can attempt to handle this (although hopefully it's not too specific). Maybe you can give us more information...

I disagree, there's better ways to handle this. :) (To show the messages if they're useful and not, if they're not...)

Is this a useful message?

I have those like 20-30 times per day, not to mention the size of the log on disk, which I have to purge from time to time.
And yes, NickServ is spamming me as well:
18:55:59 - NickServ: <my_nickname> is not a registered nickname.
I'm not interested in registering nickname - that's not a solution. I'm interested in filtering these kind of messages altogether, so I won't have to do that manually (it's horribly boring and tedious).

I agree that sounds annoying. I'll connect to this network sometime soon and take a look at what they're sending. (I assume it's a public network.)

The size of the log shouldn't really be that big. It's just the text content. Why do you need to purge it?

Are you providing a password for your (unregistered) nickname? If so, I'd try not providing one. Usually NickServ doesn't bother me if I don't attempt to authenticate with an unregistered nickname.
