From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux 2.4.4 ppc; en-US; 0.8.1) Gecko/20010421 BuildID: (No build ID found) When accessing the listed site, a navigation bar is rendered on the left of the screen. This works fine in Netscape v4.7, but is rendered as text overlaid with text overlaid with text in Mozilla. This renders the navigation bar, and in turn the website useless. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Go to website http://www.investecprivatebank.co.za 2.Look at the menu on the left 3.There is no step three.

Does the same thing on Win2000, NS6.1PR1, build 2001070303. Sent the "Web" evangelism letter, with this comment : The left-hand frame does not display correctly (text overlay) in both Netscape Communicator 4.77 and Netscape 6.1PR1. Specifically, there is this JavaScript Error in http://www.investecprivatebank.co.za/navbar_ns.htm, line 78: document.getElementById is not a function. to pb_onlinesupport@investec.co.za

*worksforme*, *outdated?*, web design of x site has changed. No problems on x site homepage. Clicking on the navbar.html link has overlapping problems, possible that proper css code taken from frameset. Using: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win 9x 4.90; en-US; rv:1.1a) Gecko/20020608 (SeaMonkey Mozilla/1.1Alpha)

Graham, I went through http://www.investecprivatebank.co.za/onlinebank/Interactive_demo/ in both OSX and Win98, and had no trouble with the menus. Do the official logged-in pages really use a different menu script than the rest of the site?

The attachment shows a potential left hand menu for Investec's internet banking site that works in Mozilla v1.7. The menu has been tested with: - Mozilla v1.7 (RHEL3) - Mozilla v1.7 (WinXP) - FireFox v0.9.1 (WinXP) - Safari v1.0.2 (MacOSX v10.2) - Internet Explorer (MacOSX v10.2) v5.2 - Internet Explorer (Win2k) v6.0 - Internet Explorer (WinXP) v6.0 And works in all the above. It would be cool if someone with access to IE < 6 to test and see what this menu does on those platforms.

After repeated refusals from Investec's IT people to fix this problem with their website (with excuses ranging from absurd to the ridiculous), the complaint has now reached the office of Max Aston, managing director of Investec private bank. He has promised to get back to me soon with progress, we await the results.

Letter dated 7 September 2004: "In reference to your letter dated 24 August 2004, and as a follow up to our previous telephone conversations, we would like to clarify our position and progress on the Mozilla browser issue. Our site currently supports Netscape and Internet Explorer, thereby catering for the most commonly used browser technology. We have spent time considering the implications from both a cost and maintenance perspective of supporting Mozilla. We have completed the requirements specification for this multi browser functionality and have approved the development work and the implementation of the Mozilla browser functionality. As with any addition to our online banking application, we will plan our implementation date to coincide with a previously scheduled deployment and believe November 2004 to be the most appropriate time. We trust this addresses your concerns and apoligise for the inconvenience this has caused. Should you have any additional concerns please do not hesitate to contact us" (Signed: David de Villiers / Wayne Preston).

How is it possible that their site "supports Netscape" but not Mozilla? I'm guessing they mean NN4, which has been pining for the fjords a long time now. Wherever possible, evangelism efforts should s/Mozilla/Netscape/g, or at least emphasize Netscape==Mozilla.

Their code suffers from the classic logic mistake: if (IE) IE-stuff else if (Netscape) Netscape-stuff else undefined <--- Mozilla falls here When the correct logic construct is: if (broken-browser) broken-browser-stuff else standards compliant behaviour It remains to be seen whether they choose to apply the fix that I created for them, or whether "not invented here" syndrome sets in and they simple add an "if mozilla" to their broken construct, meaning it works for Mozilla, but not for any other browser. Their IT people are downright hostile - I heard the most ridiculous and fictional excuses for why Mozilla was not supported and that there was no way it would be. It was only when the MD of the bank heard about the issue that something was done. I strongly suspect their story of "lots of work" and "delivered by November" was a face saving exercise from IT to the board, rather than IT to customers.
