I'm marking this *critical* because this is blocking testing of a key metric in
my  performance testing, Message Reply Speed.

On any machine/OS, the evironment variable=msgcompose:5 on a debug build writes
assertions to the logfile, and on an opt build the logfile that is generated
comes up empty.

Hyatt just landed his ultra-hip style system perf improvements, can you take a
look at this soon, Jean-Francois, so perhaps I can go back to when this first
worked, do a timing, and then time with it working again, the newly styled
system (with regards to our msgcompose windows)?

no idea. Looks like the problem occurs only in release mode :-(
