From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:0.9) Gecko/20010505 BuildID: 2001050515 Well I tried JRE V1.3.0.02(EXE), JRE V1.3.0.01(EXE) and the xpi-version of the .01 release. I just can`t get Java2 running. I didn`t forget to check if the needed files are copied to the plug-in folder. They weren`t so I copied them by my won hand. still no change. Java doesn`t work. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Installation 2.copy needed files 3.starting mozilla Actual Results: Java Plug-In doesn`t work anyway Expected Results: Java Plug-In should work!!! It did in Mozilla V0.8.1 perfectly even with the _02 release!!! Okay boys...this is really nagging is absolutely not to understand from my side how it possible that a feature like this doesn`t work. Worst version of mozilla ever I downloaded. Best improvement to is the performance gain of the mails/news

xiaobin, scans says(in email) that he has the official 0.9 release of mozilla on his machine. I think , downloading and installing java plugin and restarting the browser should work then. Isn't that so ? scans, pls remove your existing java plugin from control panel and also remove any '.java' files in ur profile, go to a page that rquires java plugin, download it, restart the browser and let me know if it works. Thanks!!
Okay...now I downloaded the xpi-version that is recommended by the release-page! No change...it still doesn`t work. I installed the V0.8.1 build 2001032722.started that build and see there...java2 is no big deal. It instandly started (with the needed files copied of course!). So...I downloaded a nightly build today...with that new modern-theme. It really looks wow!!! But java2 didn`t work there, too. Additionally the context-menu only when it liked to work :o( Another unuseable build. So...which build does work? I´m getting tired of playing with the java2 installations. While a different build works perfectly wiht java. It´s definetly THAT build here, that does not work! Otherwise...proove that I´m wrong. Rodger

Rodger: I pulled a new trunk build and find the problem you mentioned. I don't know why this happens. I think this is the problem 66840. It should have been fixed. ssu: Can you tell you what's happening with the installer? Thank you.

Rodger: One way to get out of these trouble is to go to java.sun.com, download the j2sdk1.3.0_02(or jre1.3.0_02). After downloading, copy all the NP*.dll file from JRE/bin to plugins folder of mozilla. And that should work. If you need help, please let me know.

I have not changed anything in the installer until last night, which means that any builds up to 05/09 (including 05/09 builds) should work as before. The windows registry key: key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Mozilla\Seamonkey\[UserAgent]\Main name: Install Directory is still being created, even in today's builds. I tried installing: ftp://ftp.netscape.com/pub/netscape6/english/6.0/windows/win32/xpi/jre.xpi and all the correct np*.dll files were copied to the mozilla's plugins folder. However, the j2sdk1.3.0_02 from http://www.java.sun.com did not do that. What is the url to the jre.xpi file that people are failing against?

ssu: Thanks for your writing! I tried yesterday's build and after that go to java.sun.com , and it prompts me to download the plugin. After downloading the browser, I took a look at the plugins folder and the dll file isn't there.

There is a problem that began with this week's build in that the browser is not triggering the xpinstall process when the user clicks on a .xpi file. This is a known problem that we're trying to fix. If you notice, when you click on the jre.xpi file, it will only download the file for you. It will not attempt to run xpinstall and start an installation process. If it did, the browser would have asked you to click Okay to continue (it will always do this). This is not the same problem as bug 66840. That bug was against the native windows installer, which has been fixed. You can always verify to see if that bug regressed by deleting: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Mozilla\Seamonkey from the windows registry and resintalling the browser. This key should have been recreated again.
