We're planning to hang a huge banner at a scaffolding in Berlin, the place where our new Berlin office will be. We need new design files, based on what we got from the OOH campaign recently.
Details:
- The design shall be the very same as we used for the OOH campaign earlier this year, so it's basically done. PDF Attached!
- The copy shall be: "Doing good is part of our code."
- The dimensions/format aren't fix yet. Roughly it should be about 11m wide and 7m high. You are free to set the dimensions around that range.
- Linked is a draft of how it shall look like. I hope 11m x 7m will fit: http://tobi-x.com/files/factory_banner_version_3.jpg
Would be great to have the file ready by the end of this week.
Thanks!

Thanks Tobi. Who will be printing this? We've never produced anything this big before, so I'd like to check in with whoever is involved to figure out the best way to prepare the file, etc.

John - I'll connect you to the agency that's doing this via email. It's the one that organized all the material for the recent OOH campaign in Berlin.

Hey Tobi. I'm in the process of finding a designer for this. In the meantime, here's the guidance Carsten shared over email:
"We would need a PDF file in 72 dpi in the original size, or, if set up in smaller size than original with respectively higher dpi figure. Please make sure all colors are CMYK and things are vectorised where possible."

Hello,
Attached is CR1 of the German banner. I ran into LOTS of production issues because the size is so enormous. I ended up laying this out in Illustrator but it would not let me generate a PDF because the size is so huge. Would love some input from one of the designers.
Wasn't sure if you wanted the copy in English or German? The bug was a little unclear.
Lastly I halved the physical dimensions, and then made it 144dpi but still having issues. Right now the file size is almost a GB if you can believe it! I can upload via my dropbox and invite you.

Thanks for doing this Monique. Sorry for not beeing clear enough with the copy. If you could make 2 changes and send me the file after - That'd be great.
- Copy: The copy-line should be "Doing good is part of our code."
- Dimensions: 9m width x 6m height; News is that the banner needs to be slightly smaller because of mounting reasons. (I picked a 3:2 format, I think it's nice to stick to some kind of standard.)
***File-Handling
I wonder why the file became so big? Is there anything that is not a vector? The gradient?
Would be great if you could put the file into your public Dropbox folder, not invite-only. This will go through several hands and "inviting" everyone wouldn't be so practical.
***Time
Would be great if I could send this to the printing agency on Monday!
Thank you!
Hi Tobi,
I will change the copy and the size. Hopefully the size change will help with the file size.
On this note, what happened is that I had to rasterize the logo and then place it into the Illustrator file. When I tried to place the vector logo, it went off the artboard and Illustrator would not let me size it up to match the cropping you wanted. Thus I rasterized it and placed the image cropped. I also tried to create the banner in Photoshop and it was an even larger file and unmanageable. I'm certainly open to ideas if anyone has any on how to build this file a different way. When you get that large in physical size, a lot of the programs don't respond nicely.
I can work on this tomorrow for Monday's delivery but want to warn you about HUGE file size and not being able to save it out as a PDF because of the large size. Again, open to ideas.
Thanks,
Monique

Hello,
Attached is the revised banner at the new size and copy.
Still having the same file problems. I did try to use the vector version of the logo again and because there are so many layers and filters used, it would simply not scale up at the needed size. So I am forced to rasterize it and place it.
The file size is currently 119MB and the placed image is 737MB making a total of 856MB. OUCH!
Sorry for this hassle.

Awesome, that was fast :)
I would have one last edit though: I feel like it'd look nicer with the word "of" in line 2 instead of line 3. If you have a different take on it let me know. Maybe you've tried it already and it looked not-so-great?

HI Tobi,
I agree and will make the change. I'll then post to my dropbox but want to warn you that Illustrator will not allow me to save it out as a PDF so it will be a giant illustrator file with giant psd for the logo.
Thanks and stay tuned.

Oh - I hope this is not too much extra work but I was thinking: In case the printer has trouble using your huge file - Could you prodive a small version as well which could be scaled by him/her? Thanks so much!

Looking beautiful! Please upload!
And again - Not sure if that came across: Besides this huge file, could you please provide a file which the pre-press guy in Germany could blow-up himself, too? One without all the special tweaks? Like 90cm x 60cm, scale 1:10. I think it would be good to have that as a backup in case anything goes wrong with the gigantic file.
And do they need the font as well? Do you know of a download-link?
Thanks for your help!

OK I will have to create a smaller version so it will take some time. The only I created is at 50%. Stay tuned...I'll send you the link when both versions are done. Will put in the public folder.
Monique
P.S. Regarding fonts, he will not need it because I outlined the type so it's just graphic.

Hi Tobi,
Below is the link to download the files. I would wait a couple of hours though because it's still uploading right now.

Couple of things to note: Although I made a small version at the 90x60cm size, it's still the same size as the large version because I still had to use the large cropped logo. I thought I could get away with using the vector logo but when I sized it up the rendering and shadows were all messed up.
Anyway, let me know if you need anything else!
