If the user has threadmode off, so the threadpane is flat then we should disable some thread-specific menuitems which automatically takes the user to threadmode.

some examples I see are: Go | Next | Unread Thread Mark | Thread As Read I'm sure there are more.

Actually, mark thread as read should work correctly (it worked in 4.x also) in flat mode.
Go next unread thread should also work in a flat sort, I believe it currently does basically work.

are there any thread specific menuitems that should be disabled, or is this bug invalid? (note: mark thread as read and go next thread work currently work in flat mode.)

Can someone motivate why doing thread-specific commands should work when the threadmode is off? That's gotta confuse the user.
motivate => explain suppose you want to sort messages by something and you want to mark a bunch of related messages as read, should you have to go back to the threaded view to do it? [no]

WONTFIXing Threads are still threads even when not in thread mode. The commands work fine and executing them doesn't switch mail into threaded mode (as described in comment 0)
