Currently it says "carrier" in a data field (IOW, not a header) but is just blank.
Updating with two issues here:

1. After disabling data, the field is not updated:

* Turn off mobile data
* Go back to main settings UI the Cellular & Data section
* Should have a subtitle of "Turned Off" in italics
* Instead it says AT&T.

2. If there's no SIM card, it should say "No SIM card" in italics, but currently both the item in the main Settings screen and in the Carrier field of the Cellular & Data section both are just blank.

The lock screen correctly reports no SIM card, so it must be available information, but just not implemented properly in these fields.

Specification is page 26 of https://www.dropbox.com/sh/pygek1oa9a5pspu/iG7MQSjcJw/Interaction%20Design/Apps/Settings/R1_Connectivity_v10.pdf

Subheading indicating there is not SIM card does not appear for Cellular & Data

I think this is fixed, but as the original bug report has disappeared, I'm not totally certain I understand what this bug is asking.

n?dietrich to confirm.

Still a problem: After disabling data, the field is not updated to the proper string.

STR:

* Turn off mobile data
* Go back to main settings UI the Cellular & Data section
* Should have a subtitle of "Turned Off" in italics
* Instead it says AT&T.

UX, what's the current spec for this?

The second issue is handled correctly, both immediately after removing the SIM card as well as after restarting.

Flagging Jenny, but I *believe* we expect to see "Turned Off." Is AT&T coming from the SIM, maybe?

Hello Dietrich,

See attached for latest Cellular and data spec. For single SIM, I don't see the issue you described still stands. For dual SIM, the purpose of showing carrier name is to let user easily distinguish which SIM card setting to access; also when mobile data is turned off, it is visually obvious that the toggle is off we don't really need to further inform user about the status, so I don't think it's proper to replace carrier name with "turned off". Thanks!

Adding qawanted to see if the issue still exists. Thanks!

I have no idea what the original reporter was asking, and it's not clear to me what comment 4 was referring to either. NI commenter of comment 4 to check if this issue is still occurring on latest.

The STR in comment #1 and comment #4 seems pretty clear. If you do not understand it, please let me know at which step you are not able to complete the action, and I can clarify as much as needed.

Regarding comment #6 - The toggle is not in the main screen - it requires clicking through into the "Cellular & Data" screen. Remember, many users never enter Settings, let alone feel comfortable digging around in them. Let's try and make the product better than "yes it works somewhere if you can figure it out".

There's a precedent for making this product improvement, and also a justification:

Precedent: In Wi-Fi and also in Bluetooth rows in the main Settings app screen, we show "Disabled" and "Turned off" respectively, if those features are not enabled (The fact that we use inconsistent terminology might be a bug itself...). This means that mobile data is the exception in not indicating that the feature is not enabled in the Settings main screen. Our treatment is inconsistent.

Justification: Mobile data is turned off by default, and has no notification tray symbol to indicate that state. The user might, for example, see four bars and not understand that mobile data is disabled.
Flags: needinfo?(dietrich)
Comment #9 is only about the scenario when mobile data is disabled.

The other scenario in comment #1 is about an incorrect text description when there's no SIM card. This regression was fixed at some point, as I can no longer reproduce. If you remove your SIM card and reboot the phone, the text now says "No SIM card".

So this bug is now only about improving the text to indicate that data is disabled.
Tagging for discussion in triage this week.

I was seeing different things on different devices so wasn't sure what was going on with this bug. Also the lack of screenshots isn't helping.

On Aries, I can confirm that on main settings page under Cellular & Data category, it says "AT&T" (or whatever carrier you have) when Data is NOT turned on. I'll attach a screenshot of this screen. It will say the type of cell connection for example "AT&T - 3.5G HSPA+" when Data is turned on.

On Flame, it does NOT say anything regarding cell connection, cell carrier etc on main Settings page under Cellular & Data category. There is NO subtitle in this section on Flame whatsoever, whether I have Data on/off or whether I have one SIM or two SIMs. Attaching a screenshot of this.

I can confirm that this issue is no longer occurring on Aries or Flame. "No SIM card" is now indicated on main Settings page under Cellular & Data category. Also attaching a screenshot of this screen.

Looks like the "No Sim" is being handled consistently between Flame and Aries - awesome.

When data is disabled (off), Aries and Flame are doing two different things. We would like to make both behave consistently.

The subtext of Cellular and Data (when is disabled) should be:
AT&T - Data off

Additionally, would it be possible to add if roaming is turned on when the user is roaming?

Would this be a good first bug?

It's always complicated when things related to operator :/
Put this into backlog so we could work on it when nothing in urgent.
