797602 - Thunderbird doesn't reprompt for authentication details when login to authenticated nntp server fails due to bad auth.

Steps to reproduce:

I loaded up thunderbird setup with an authenticated nntp server.    My account password was saved by the password manager in Thunderbird but was no longer valid since my account password had been changed since the last time I loaded Thunderbird.


Actual results:

The newsgroups failed to show new posts or show the list of newsgroups and didn't reask for my login details to the nntp server


Expected results:

I should have been presented with the username/password box again (like what occurs if login to an imap server fails) so I could reenter my details easily.

Effects Linux, Windows and OSX.
Seamonkey has the same problem as well.

This problem causes major confusion for end users at the company I work at anytime they change their passwords.

Just for double checking, do you have NNTP logs?

Attachment: nntp:5 log tb 16, attempting to access nntp server using saved password after changing account password

Setup authenticated nntp account in tb16, saved auth details.   Then changed password on nntp account and attempted to access nntp server again.   Clicking on articles in already subscribed lists resulted in a blank message body being shown with no indication of why,   accessing the subscription list showed an empty list (barring subscribed lists) again with no indication of why the news group lists weren't being shown.

Ew, 502 for auth error. So the special-casing for 502 error codes in NewsResponse is to blame here. Which I'm planning on fixing for bug 797600 anyways.
