We fixed this in bug 644255 and 646861 bug we have regressed. I tested based on the comment below and I can confirm that we have indeed regressed

"I just did some testing with a PPC Mac running 10.5.8 (I don't have 10.4):
When I used Safari, all of the Mozilla download buttons let me download 15.0.1 which will not run on that machine.
When I used Fx 3.6.28 I was taken to http://mozilla.org/firefox/update which tells me to update and let's me download 15.0.1. All Mozilla download buttons let me download 15.0.1."

We need to fix this before November 20th based on bug 791862
Hey Mike - since you own similar bug 791862, can you make sure to get this prioritized?

Although comment 0 suggests we'll need this before November 20th, this is actually a regression and should be fixed asap.

I just tested this again in the lab using a 10.4 PPC machine.

I can download 16.0 beta 6 and install it in the Applications directory, but the program has a slash through it and will not run.

When I used 3.6.28 with a clean profile, I was not taken to that update page and Help->Check for Updates does not find any update. I can download 15.0.1, but the same thing happens - there is a slash through the dmg and when the program launches I see the error about the program not being able to be launched on the system.
Yeah - still means that a user can go from a working state (albeit out of date) to a non-working state by replacing the old application. We should fix this.

What is the fix that's needed here, exactly in terms of a change to the expected user experience?

PPC users should not be offered downloads of Firefox. Basically un-regress bug 644255.

Rik: Is this on track to be resolved and pushed by next Nov. 7th?
Rik any updates?

Alex: Do you know any page that explains what PPC users can do?

You could point them at https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/17.0beta/system-requirements/. Since PPC can't run 10.6 (our new minimum system version), it'll make sense.

Remove download buttons for old Mac users.

This shouldn't remove buttons for mobile downloads.
