Sometimes when I copy in Mozilla (both by just selecting and by selecting + Edit|Copy), Paste / Paste As Quotation doesn't get enabled in the (Mailnews) Composer. In extreme cases, I cannot even paste per middleclick. I have no reliable reproduction steps.

Since it seems to be specific to mailnews (?), over to them for a start, but it seems like a focus/controller issue. Can you still reproduce?

I do not believe this is a Linux only bug. I see this behavior for months in Windows builds.

Additional note about Paste. This is an example, when Copy ('test to paste') and Paste from the same window: test to pastetest to pastetest to pastetest to paste - correct way - it Pastes at the cursor location. There is extra line and the Paste on a new line - when Copy ('changed') and Paste from another window. Take a look at the Paste result: changed changed Expected result: to have this: changedchanged PS: I am going to keep eyes on tracing the case when Paste is disabled.

This happens to me quite a bit also in RC1.

(build 2002051006 win98) Sometimes, when I try to copy text in the browser and paste it into a textarea in another window, I can't paste (keyboard shortcuts). However, I can paste the text into another application. I've found that when I use the "copy" item from the "edit" menu instead of the shortcut, it seems to allow me to paste. I can't reproduce the bug. Sometimes it just happens, and when I've managed to "stop" it, I can't make it happen again (until the next time it decides to).

This bug still present in 2002062608. I can reproduce it. For example try following procedure. 1. Start the mozilla. 2. Open http://www.mozilla.org/quality/help/bugzilla-helper.html 3. Open mail/news window 4. Start composing new message 5. Copy any word from http://www.mozilla.org/quality/help/bugzilla-helper.html page 6. Try to paste the copied to the message body. It's impossible to do. 7. But if you will paste it into subject filed, and then will copy from there, It will be possible to paste it into the message body.

Everyone, is the problem for message body only (e.g. you can still paste in the subject line) per comment 15?

I seem to be having this problem. I am trying to copy from a UNIX emulator (specifically, Reflection) under Windows 98, and I can very seldom successfully paste into Mozilla (build #2002082606). Occasionally, I can get it to work if I use Notepad as an intermediary (once it decides to work, I can for a time go directly, without first pasting and copying from Notepad).

My experience is basically as described in comment #15. I was trying to copy from .txt file in open office writer into message area of mail compose. As in comment #15 it works to copy to subject. A bit different than in #15, in my case "results may be unpredictable." I learned that phrase from IBM mainframe documentation. When I try to paste I get 1) nothing 2) something that looks like an Asian character set mixed with question marks 3) occasionally, no pattern discernable, it acually copies a short ... as few words, maybe a paragraph correctly. I am a Linux newby, so go easy on me if I posted this in the wrong place. Timothy Carter

Oh god, this problem has been killing me lately. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5 Occasionally, Copy/Paste will just completely stop working inside of Firefox. It gets to a point where it pretends it's working, but nothing ever gets copied to the clipboard. It's completely random, so I have no steps to reproduce it. Sometimes it can be fixed by highlighting and copying something out of a separate tab. Other times, Firefox needs to be restarted entirely.

I've discovered some additional information that may help in tracking this problem down. When this problem occurs, I've noticed that hitting the ' key will pop up the find toolbar, and the arrow keys no longer function in any part of the browser.

I've JUST noticed this is not filed as a Firefox bug. Is it related to my issue? If not, I'll file a separate bug as this is pretty much all I've found on the issue.

do you still see this problem in linux as described in 2001?

When I reported this bug I was running RH 7.2. I am currently running Fedora 5. I just tested a copy from a text file and subsequent paste to the message area and subject area of a new email being created. It worked just fine. So from my current test it appears this bug no longer exists, at least in the exact situation that I found it. Best regards, Timothy Carter antrim44@geeksnet.com
