Alright, we have a thumbs up to enable desktop install buttons. - Let's roll this out with at least some of our other desktop design bugs - If an app is *only* available for mobile, please disable the button on desktop. There is already a little message explaining it's mobile only, but let's leave the button off as well. - Mobile apps will continue to be shown for desktop in browse/search. That will flow well into our send to phone plans.

For desktop folks who are using some other browser and NOT Firefox (fools) let's use the desktop banner to let them know they'll need Firefox to download desktop apps. This will eliminate the need for us to show an error message on every desktop app description. Use the design here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=800654#c11 Change wording to "You must use Firefox to install Firefox apps to your desktop. Download" Change icon to the Firefox logo. The download link will take you here: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ For mobile-only apps on desktop we'll need to return in the near term to the (annoying) per app message "This is a mobile-only app. Please try this app in Firefox Mobile on your Android phone."

Hey Wil, what does it mean that it's "beta app install"?

(In reply to Maria Sandberg [:mushi] from comment #5) > Hey Wil, what does it mean that it's "beta app install"? Merely the wording in the goal. Ignorable for purposes of this bug. :)

from Maureen in bug 800654 comment 20: > • User is on desktop and not using FF - ""You must use Firefox to install > Firefox apps to your desktop. Download" > • User is on desktop using older version of FF - "You must use a more recent > version of Firefox to install Firefox apps to your desktop. Download"

Enabled desktop installs: https://github.com/mozilla/zamboni/commit/4b2f03a Tweaked copy for desktop users: https://github.com/mozilla/zamboni/commit/1c427b0 - (In reply to Chris Van Wiemeersch [:cvan] from comment #8) > from Maureen in bug 800654 comment 20: > > > • User is on desktop and not using FF - ""You must use Firefox to install > > Firefox apps to your desktop. Download" > > • User is on desktop using older version of FF - "You must use a more recent > > version of Firefox to install Firefox apps to your desktop. Download" Maureen, Firefox should automatically upgrade. But if not and a user does see this message, the Download link points to https://www.mozilla.org/firefox Let me know if there's anything else. Thanks! - I'm marking this as closed. David, I'm not sure if Send to Phone is covered in this. If so, feel free to reopen.
