The recommend button currently only supports recommend or undo recommend, it doesn't support -1/dislike. Should the button be tri-state? How do we support dislike?
The recommend api is underspecified in a few ways IMO. Eg, what about services like micro-blogging type sites where it only makes sense to "recommend" a site if you can also add text about it?
I've considered our use-case again and looked at the UI and I don't think the URL-bar interface would benefit from being overly complicated. This perhaps relates to a different feature request I've made (I don't think we made an issue for it). If we can simply have the URL bar button open the sidebar we could present all options there. That is, the URL bar icon would simply be a "Feedback" button. Then the decision of what is possible, vote up, vote down, sharing, adding a comment, or otherwise could be made entirely by the sidebar.
Sorry for the bug-spam. This is a first cut at bugs that need (or potentially need) a change to the social api to be implemented appropriately.

We wont deal with tri-state recommend, and are moving towards a full share panel (bug 818675)
