I talked to Kev, and via his contacts he got this forwarded on to the relevant engineering group at Facebook.
* Cruel slowdown * Getting about:memory nearly impossible * Closing Facebook tab recovered the Firefox from nearly frozen state less than a minute * Not all memory reclaimed after closing Facebook tab (see the end of the attached memory list)
This time I left my FF for four day period on FB main page, and I got: │ ├──2,874,600,672 B (63.88%) -- top(https://www.facebook.com/, id=17)/active
What addons do you have? Do you see problems on any other sites?
I've occasionally had my browser slow down quite a bit from leaving Facebook open for a long time (see bug 778599), but I don't think I've ever experienced high memory usage. If you are experiencing slowdowns, you could try using the profiler addon: https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Performance/Profiling_with_the_Built-in_Profiler More recent versions will produce more information, but it looks like it should even work with 16 now.

I have no problem with other sites. I am using lots of tabs (~100).

Yes, I think it works on Linux. Come to think of it, I think you actually do need to run Nightly for it to work, because of compiler options. The addon is here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/gecko-profiler/
Running Nightly with lots of tab for more than two days also caused such leak. This time no picture theatre enabled.
