I've seen this recently in Nightly. Usually when I crash or force-quit Firefox, sessionstore just restores all of my app tabs and an about:home tab, and loses the information about my old tabs.
Please let me know if I can provide any more information.

False alarm, I just realized that for some reason my resume_from_crash pref is set to false. :(
