I'm right handed, and I use my right thumb to press the "space" button on the VKB. However, "." is to the right of the space button, so I can't see it when I press [space]. I've been composing a bunch of texts that look like "Going to get some food.. Ttyl" "Still adjusting t. This whole b2g thing" I suggest we move the "." next to the ",". This kinda screws left handed people, but at least it would give them the option of using their right thumb to press [space].
Summary: Too easy to accidentally hit "." on keyboard → [keyboard]Too easy to accidentally hit "." on keyboard
We can work to make the keyboard layout more user-friendly, but this doesn't block v1

I just noticed this morning that pressing space twice quickly automatically inserts "." So that explains the first class of "Hello.. There" typos. Josh is that intentional?

cc'ing Casey and Rafa (respective Moz/TEF UX owners of keyboard) for input here.

Double space turning into period space is intentional, and mimics Android, I think.
And iOS. It is intentional indeed. KBD specs suggest tweaked hit areas to avoid precisely this issue.
Component: Gaia → Gaia::System::Keyboard
Working as planned, just not to my particular taste.
