Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:17.0) Gecko/17.0 Firefox/17.0
Build ID: 20121023124120
Steps to reproduce:
When typing text into the URL bar, the autocomplete does not always repaint into a rectangle.
This leads to portions of page titles and portions of URLs shown over the page currently being visited, and the scroll bar might be only partially shown.
Using the arrow keys to scroll down will make the full text (and scroll bar) eventually show up for all items.
Problem also exists under Private Browsing Mode and Safe (no-addons) Mode.
Running:
Firefox 17 Beta - Linux x86_64 (official build from Mozilla FTP site)
Slackware Linux 14.0 x86_64, with latest updates (Slackware's stable series Firefox package has been removed)
KDE v4.8.5
NVIDIA GeForce GT 220
NVIDIA proprietary driver v304.60 - Linux x86_64 (Slackware's nouveau-module-blacklisting "package" has been installed)
I can provide more info on my system if needed.
Actual results:
Typing text into the URL bar brings up the autocomplete, which does not always paint as a complete rectangle, leaving loose and missing text and/or a partial scrollbar.
I have to use the arrow keys to see the full text, with the scrollbar eventually showing up.
Expected results:
A complete rectangle should have been painted after the first keypress, with all text and the scrollbar (if enough history exists) fully visible within the rectangle.
Upon filing this bug, using the drop-down bars next to text on this Bugzilla bug page ("Product", "Component", "Version", etc.) will occasionally show missing text and/or a missing scrollbar as well. So it's not specific to the URL bar.

Does it depend on whether hardware acceleration is enabled (preferences → Advanced)?
No, happens regardless of Firefox hardware acceleration setting.

Did this start happening with F17?
Could you post a screencast/screen shot of the issue?

Hi,
Sorry for the two-month delay. A few weeks ago I replaced my NVIDIA setup described above with an AMD Radeon 7750 and its proprietary driver and found out what the problem is.
1. Go into KDE Settings->Workspace Appearance and Behavior->Desktop Effects
2. Click the Advanced tab
3. Select the drop down "Compositing Type"
When XRender (default) is selected, this bug happens.
When OpenGL is selected, this bug does not happen.
I don't know why OpenGL wouldn't be selected by default in KDE, as things naturally look a lot nicer in general when using OpenGL.

Still on the beta build described above, which is Firefox 18.0 at the time of this post.
