Priority for your Team:
Medium
Timeframe for Completion:
a week
Goal:
Grow Mozilla
Business Objective:
Enable targeted newsletters for vouched mozillians.
Other Party:
Exact Target
Description:
Aakash would like to add exact target email collection into the mozillians phonebook. This would sign up the user to a specific email list upon vouching. This would also send specific information the user entered into the mozillians website into exact target.
== Opt In ==
1. During initial signup on mozillians we will have an opt in checkbox for an email list
2. If the user clicks that checkbox, on vouch they will be added to an email list and the specific information outlined below will be synced with exact target. The user will be informed about what information is being shared.
3. Users may opt out of this service by adjusting their email preference on our existing newsletter preference page (on mozilla.org)
== Opt Out ==
1. The user may opt out with no difference in service other than not receiving the emails.
== Data Collected ==
Email Address - used for sending the email
Country - used to send out country specific emails
Groups - used to send out interest specific emails
Source_url - required by 'basket' our inteface with exact target

This may go without saying - but as an fyi - this data is already being transfered to exact target. That's how we communicate with Mozillian's. But now, we have to manually upload the data which isn't secure and it's messy. This process will allow us to streamline and transfer data in a secure way.

This sounds fine to me. Do you have any screenshots I can review?

We do not.
We wanted to get the privacy issues (if any) sorted well in advance of coding.
I can add a note to have you review the opt-in/out page & language once it's coded.
Sound OK? Is there anything else you would want to review?

Yes, this is resolved and the copy changes on the website are being taken care of in bug 811801. We're good to move forward!
Once the code changes are made, we can have Stacy verify this bug.

Stacy .. can you verify this bug?

The screenshot in attachment 751862 [details] shows the text saying that the person creating a Mozillians profile will receive email communications from us and gives directions for unsubscribing.
Stacy, can you please verify this bug? Thanks!

Hi all - what's shown in the attachment is actually an opt-out model (i.e. you receive email as part of signup until you tell us you don't want to receive it anymore.) vs. an opt-in model, where you actively check a box to request it. I don't see an opt-in check box for email, but the way it's described above, it sounds like one was planned? Can you clarify?
== Opt In ==
1. During initial signup on mozillians we will have an opt in checkbox for an email list
Also, we need to make sure the privacy checkbox is unchecked, so that it's an active opt-in as well.

Sorry for the confusion Stacy. I think an opt-in for email was originally planned, but later we agreed that opt-out was better for email. Because it's critical for us to send email communications to Mozillians about important news and opportunities (like the Summit), we feel an opt-out is best. Otherwise, it becomes nearly impossible for us to get the word out to all Mozillians when we have important information to share.
For the privacy checkbox, it is unchecked by default, so that it's an active opt-in.
Does this sound okay? Happy to discuss more too.

Hi William,
Yes, that sounds ok and makes sense. I remember having that conversation now. Jishnu and I need to be sure to adjust the privacy policy, which is in the works.
The privacy checkbox looks checked in the attachment, so thank you for confirming that it defaults to unchecked.
