I successfully configured my email app with my GMail account. After doing so I was able to read mail. I modified the settings and still was able to read mail. I opened and closed and could still read mail. Unfortunately, one time when I launched the email app the screen went black. Since that time, whenever I launch the e-mail app I get a black screen. Leaving the app for many minutes (I left the phone for over 10 mins) did not result in the email app being displayed. Andrew helped me capture a logcat, which I have attached.
