Steps to reproduce:
I downloaded latest 'beta' Thunderbird after I did so my email uses the 'Trash' folder for an 'Inbox',Inbox remains empty, when I delete mail goes I know not where. When this happened I tried to reload previous non-Beta release and whatever set the 'Trash ' as 'Inbox' remained.
Actual results:
Mail uses 'Trash' as an 'Inbox'
Expected results:
should have had a normal inbox and when I delete it should go to Trash

Holland, in comment 0, was this Thunderbird 17 beta?
Does it still happen with newer betas?
https://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla_messaging/topics/something_weird-1i7yuo reports something similar.
It could be retention settings. If you right+click on folder, properties, retention policy what do you see?

This problem does not occur in either Google Chrome or Yahoo

McAfee thoroughly tested and determined that neither its anti-virus or its firewall cause the problem
