Implementation of What's New page for Firefox 17. Locales: As many as possible, depending on l10n.
where is that content to localize? What will we show to locales that can't translate in time? Note that it means that we have to work on two projects, one is building a whatsnew page with Firefox 17 content and one is building a whatsnew page with non-release specific content using strings from previous projects.
animation moved to separate bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=808958
Created attachment 679856 [details] Copy for strings for What's new page Attached you'll find the text file for the What's new page. I think the "Hooray, your Firefox is up to date" and the links to release notes, privacy, etc are likely already localized from previous What's new pages, but I left them in to be safe. The Newsletter sign up is EN-US only, so I noted that.
Link to use in all buttons in all locales: https://www.facebook.com/about/messenger-for-firefox?src=whats_new
Created attachment 679929 [details] Copy for strings for What's new page Updated URL with tracking link.
Attachment #679856 - Attachment is obsolete: true
making small changes to the hero image - please hold on implementation till that's final - unless it won't affect your work. just fyi. will be uploaded in the next few hours - asap.
Created attachment 680174 [details] Copy for strings for What's new page Also, the link to the Facebook activation page is updated again: src=firefox_whats_new instead of just src=whats_new Holler if you have questions.
FYI, localizers are translating the strings you provided ahead of the implementation, please use the exact strings we gave them when you create the page: http://viewvc.svn.mozilla.org/vc/projects/mozilla.com/trunk/locales/en-GB/whatsnew.lang?revision=110508&view=co Thanks
Please add in browser sniffing functionality to this page. Hero image for various operating systems are being created in Bug 806636.
Adding Bill from Webtrends to this bug so he can advise on implementing any Webtrends reporting if needed. Bill -- on this page we'll need to: 1. Track clicks on the main button 2. Basic page views, referral sources, etc. Here's a mockup of the page: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=799735#c3 If custom code is needed please post to this bug with directions for WebDev. If any custom webtrends reports need to be created, please create those before next Tuesday 11/20 so that the data will be captured from day 1. Thanks!
Code for facebook button: For the onClick or onMouseDown event: dcsMultiTrack('DCS.dcssip','mozilla.org','DCS.dcsuri','whats_new/facebook_messenger.button','WT.ti','Facebook Messenger','WT.dl','26','WT.conv','1')
Laura: Craig has what he needs to move forward with the WN pages except for a graphic that he is going to ask Ty for. Malexis: Let's make sure QA is aware of the scope of this page and the locales involves. Since additional locales will come online over time, we will need to QA and release localized what's new pages after we go-live with social API. Future L10N improvements will make this more seamless.
Craig, I couln't find a branch for that project on bedrock or your fork, could you please publish your work (even early stages?). I really need to have access to the code base to check functionnality, strings and to have Milos work on rtl support and other css fixes for locales, thanks!
(In reply to Chris More [:cmore] from comment #12) > Laura: Craig has what he needs to move forward with the WN pages except for > a graphic that he is going to ask Ty for. what is that graphic? I might be able to help. cc-ing Ty.
The page in progress is available at https://www-demo1.allizom.org/en-US/firefox/whatsnew/ (use Beta/Aurora/Nightly or else you get redirected to /update). This doesn't yet have the platform detection to swap the hero image, but that's coming later today.
Update: We will not be using the What's New page next Tuesday due to changing in campaign timing. However, we want to finish building out this web content because: 1. We may try to use a Hotfix to fire this page if needed between releases. The same content/localization would be needed then, so let's continue to build it out. 2. We may use this with Firefox 18 launch. If so, the same content/localization would be needed then, so let's continue to build it out. Bottom Line: This can become less of a priority, but we still need this web content locked and loaded soon. If anything we may have another week for Dev. I'll update with more timing details as I learn them (today EOD).
Looking good. Just left a couple of comments on Basecamp, which I'm repeating here: Please capitalize "Web" in the line above the video. Also, just wondering why the "Keep in touch" and "Keep it moving" promos are missing as compared with Ty's mockup: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=809236#c9 That might have be a deliberate decision that I missed, but I wanted to be sure.

I think you meant this comment for bug 809238, which is the First Run page.
Sorry about that. Posting there.
This is code complete but was pulled from release. Marking the bug resolved and we'll open a new bug for any future changes/additions if and when it's ready to go live.
