I tap on the email app.
I try to setup a gmail account
Name: Armen
User: blahblah@gmail.com
Password *************

The next screen I go to say "Invalid username or password".
The only way you'll get this is if the server returns a status of 401. Make sure your password is correct; if you use two-factor auth, this might make matters more complicated. I'm guessing you'd need to create an application-specific password for your account in that case.
2-auth!

Thanks squib!
Summary: [email] adding a gmail account does not work → [email] add meaningful message for setting up a gmail account with 2-auth accounts OR add 2-auth support

IMAP says this to us when we try and login with the correct password to a 2-auth account:
### NO [ALERT] Application-specific password required: http://support.google.com/accounts/bin/answer.py?answer=185833 (Failure)

IMAP says this to us when we try and login with the wrong password to a 1-auth or a 2-auth account:
### NO [AUTHENTICATIONFAILED] Invalid credentials (Failure)

So we will be able to detect this and do the right thing.
I've got an account with 2-factor auth and am trying to use an app-specific password, which is supposed to work around this sort of thing, with no luck: see bug 823234.

I'm not 100% sure whether it's a problem with the presence of 2-factor auth or something else, though.
Brion, thanks for filing bug 823234; we'll look into the issue on that bug.

This particular bug I think we can mark resolved because we landed specific error messages for gmail 2-factor auth during the process of switching gmail from activesync to IMAP.
