Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.11 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/23.0.1271.64 Safari/537.11
Steps to reproduce:
Click on any URL link in an email, http or https
Actual results:
The link opens in Firefox, regardless of what is in the network.protocol-handler.app.http setting (edited via Thunderbird's config editor). I've set that to the default value (I'm using KDE, and everything else opens in Opera via KDE's configuration); I've set it to /usr/bin/xdg-open (which opens in Opera), and I've set it to /usr/bin/google-chrome. No change: always Firefox. When I search throug Thunderbird's config editor for any mention is firefox, there is none.
This bug has been there for a few years and many versions of Thunderbird - I've only now got around to reporting it. I'm presently using Fedora 16, though it was there on Fedora 12 too when I used that.
Expected results:
Opens in the desktop's default browser, or whatever is set in network.protocol-handler.app.http or network.protocol-handler.app.https

Note: You can use about:config instead of the user.js

Thanks. I fixed my problem using the mimeTypes.rdf method.
