Steps to reproduce:

Try to drag text


Actual results:

Nothing.
Sometimes TB becomes permanently unable to drag and drop.
The cursor does not change when the mouse is pressed.
Thunderbird has to be restarted.
Notices from 3.5 to 15 on Ubuntu 10.04.



Expected results:

Drag.

Hi, I am afraid that I report bugs to help fixing them and not for being asked 3 years later if they have been fixed by chance. What I can say is that the same bug exists in Firefox and that it still exists in 34.0. I now use Ubuntu 12.04.  It happened lately and, for the first time, it disappeared without any need to restart Firefox.  It's a rare event, maybe more frequent when FF/TB slows down because they use more memory. I haven't seen it much in TB 17.0.5.
On the other hand, I don't update my software unless I know that it will fix something that's annoying me much.  Last time I had to update Firefox (to 34), it took me almost one month for finding workarounds for what no longer worked.  And that's because Ubuntu does not keep previous packet versions in the depots as I suggested. In which product name should I file a bug for that?  Should I have been able to downgrade to 33, it would have saved me much time.

I can't speak to firefox except to point you to some open bug reports http://mzl.la/1GqlsRF and suggest if you see a problem there please file a bug on Firefox.

We definitely appreciate bug reports being filed, but unfortunately we're not going to keep a 3 year old bug open that no one else reproduces, and can't tell whether it's happening for you beause of something in your environment (which only you can test) or something specific to Thunderbird, and that you aren't willing to retest yourself on a newer version. But if you can reproduce this with a current version of Thunderbird started in safe mode then please feel free to reopen the bug

It happened again and I'm leaving Thunderbird 24 hours in that pitiful state to make tests and answer questions you would ask.
I'm using 38.5.1 and I can't do better than using a rather recent version.
The problem with waiting 3 years is not mine, but because you ask no question and suggest no test to make to try to determine the conditions in which this happens.
It is not a bug that can be "reproduced". It happens for an unknown reason.
Being specific to an environment is not a reason for not fixing a bug.
Please note Bug 857048 showing a similar but reproducible problem with Firefox.
This spontaneous problem used to happen with Firefox too but I have not seen it for a long time in 34.0.

You've not been able to test in safe mode because it is so intermittent?
