Steps to reproduce:
click at replay button
Actual results:
the answer mail address is splittet up into two parts
"Lastname, Firstname" <mail@whatever>
The mail is displayed correct in main view why is there a problem to quote the name?
or just ignore the name and use the address (if it is not in the addressbook)
Expected results:
Drop the name part or quote the name part

Can we get a testcase email to when we reply it happens (eg save that email and attach it here).
Summary: Replay a Mail to somone with a comma in real name part (reopen 254519)? → Reply a Mail to someone with a comma in real name part (reopen 254519)?
(In reply to Jens Kapitza from comment #0)
> the answer mail address is splittet up into two parts
> "Lastname, Firstname" <mail@whatever>
That example has the real-name part correctly quoted, thus it should be treated as a single address and sent to <mail@whatever> as intended. I assume that you are talking about real name parts which contain characters that require RFC 2047 encoding, but your example doesn't reflect that.
Or, does a reply to an RFC 2047 encoded message result in two different recipients as was handled in bug 254519:
> Lastname, Firstname <mail@whatever>
where "Lastname" remains unresolved?
Component: Mail Window Front End → Message Compose Window

Ludo, can you reproduce this? Creating a fake .eml file, opening it, then replying to it shows the correct (i.e., single-line address) handling of the address (testing with 10.0.10 ESR release and 18.0 versions).
Also, bug 254519 likely doesn't apply here as it's a regular ASCII-encoded address without RFC 2047 encoding.

I can't on trunk.
Jens, can you check if the same happens with Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled selected, thus to make sure that no extension or custom setting interferes?
I've tried this again with the official 16.0.2 32-bit release build on Linux and couldn't reproduce the problem either, in a setting that should match yours, thus it looks like something is going wrong in your local installation.
Did you get this Thunderbird version from your Linux distribution (if yes, which one?) or from the http://www.mozilla.org/thunderbird/ web site?

would it be helpful to paste the pref.js
or is it a locale de issue with a seperator Interpretation

I've checked with disabled Add-ons same thing. Name is splitted up.
My locale is Thunderbird English (with no Add-ons) and Desktop is in German.

> would it be helpful to paste the pref.js
Maybe let's verify first if it's related to the profile to start with. While Thunderbird is down, rename the ".thunderbird" folder in your home directory to something else (e.g., ".thunderbird.bak", then restart and set up the account from scratch (which is hopefully straight-forward if the provider is recognized by Thunderbird). Now see if the problem persists (if it does, it can't be anything in your profile). You can reinstate your old profile after shutting down Thunderbird, then deleting the new ".thunderbird" folder and renaming ".thunderbird.bak" back to ".thunderbird".
> or is it a locale de issue with a seperator Interpretation
Good question; there have been weird bugs with locale-specific interpretation and mix-ups between '.' and ',' in some instances. I've set the LC_* environment variables to de_DE.utf8 to emulate that, but still can't reproduce with the 16.0.2 release.

i am my own provider using this config
http://schwarze-allianz.de/mail/config-v1.1.xml
and have removed the folder (resetup the account and the same thing happens)
I don't know how to fix this
i'll append a whole mail know maybe it is not only the header.
my plugins are:
* google-talk 3.10.2.0
* goolge-talk plugin video accelerator 0.1.44.23
* IcedTea-Web (1.3.-1ubuntu1)
extensions:
* EDS contact integration 0.5
* Messaging menu and unity launcher integration 1.0.1
running on xubuntu 12.10
current website download ~/Arbeitsfläche/thunderbird$ ./thunderbird
started from console (same error again)

Using the full message as posted in the previous comment didn't expose the issue with 16.0.2 on Linux either for me, thus sorry to say, but I'm at a loss here...
Another far fetched guess might be the address book partially matching and splitting the address somehow, but this shouldn't be reproducible any more with a new profile, thus we can probably exclude this as possible cause as well.
I'm moving this to MailNews Core to give it some more attention by the people involved with backend problems.

(In reply to Wayne Mery (:wsmwk) from comment #18)
Thomas has a crystal ball sometimes.
Thanks :-)
I consulted my crystal ball and the future is bright: Whatever problem this was (unfortunately, poor summary, and no clear STR), it seems that all the troubles of the past have gone away with time. An exceptional example where Thunderbird actually gets commas in email addresses 100% right!
This is what I've tried, and no problems seen:
- Customized From "lastWithüüü, first" <foo@bar.com>, and reply to that (gets correctly encoded because of ü)
- Default identity From "last, first" <foo@bar.com>, and reply to that (plain ascii, sends the quotes)
- Non-default identity, From "last, first" <foo@bar.com>, and reply to that
- Default identity From "'foo@bar.com'" <foo@bar.com> (as seen in comment 13), and reply to that.
For all of these, sending and replying and receiving the reply with TB worked exactly as expected.
Thunderbird conveniently eliminates the quotes for display, and adds them back for sending as required.
