Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:16.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/16.0
Build ID: 20121024073032

Steps to reproduce:

I have re-installed the latest FF version for Android on my LG Optimus 4X HD several times, but the following issue keeps occuring all the time:

Actual results:

I click into a text field, ANY text field on ANY website, and my LG virtual keyboard pops up as it is suppoed to. BUT I cannot enter ANY text into any text field as the keyboard seems to not be recognized by Firefox within text fields.

I have no problem entering text into the URL address bar. But text fields do not react upon pressing any key on the virtual keyboard.

Expected results:

What should have happened is that I shouldbe ableto type text into text fields as I can in any other application on my smartphone (including e-mail, SMS, the Google Chrome browser, ANYTHING).

Hello,

Thanks for the bug report. Can you try out Nightly (http://nightly.mozilla.org) for Android or Firefox Beta for Android and report back if things are working out for you?

Also, which input method (virtual-keyboard) are you using (e.g, SwiftKey, Swype, or simply the one provided by the phone)

Hi Aaron,

I did try it on the Firefox Beta, and the problem re-occured (that was three days ago). I am using the QWERTZ keyboard for German and the AZERTY keyboard for English. Maybe the issue will be solved with an update?

Also, there is another issue I cannot explain: Mobile Firefox for Android does not display the font sizes correctly and does split up text/elements that belong into one line and are being displayed correctly on any other browser (desktop and mobile). I will give you an example:

http://doccovington.net

To the right, "Elena Strubakis" is supposed to fit into one line, but is split into two, although I did not change the font sizes in the FF for Android settings. More severely, you will notice the last div in the middle that says "Graphic Design" - it is broken into two divs now, which looks awful, and I don't see a way to fix it, since every other mobile browser is displaying it correctly.

Thanks in advice for your time and help,
Doc
There was a large change to keyboards in Firefox for Android Nightly builds. To best evaluate the status of the bug we need you to test on the builds at https://nightly.mozilla.org

Firefox and most other mobile browsers provide a 'Font inflation' feature to make desktop webpages more readable on mobile devices. If you want to avoid this on Firefox and other browsers designing a mobile view for your site would be best. If you want to simply change the display on your phone. Open the Firefox Settings by clicking on the menu button and selecting 'Text size' and press the small 'a' repeatedly till the text is at its smallest size.
As mentioned, please try out Firefox Beta on Google Play and let us know if things are better.

It didn't, the issues still occured at the time. However, I have not tried out the latest version of mobile FF, so I can't give you any feedback on that...

Please don't re-open unless you have tested with an up to date Firefox beta or https://nightly.mozilla.org

Changes such as the ones I mention in comment 3 only get to users via updates. We don't do small changes to Firefox any more.
