Expected results:
Smoothless upgrades
In my case, I can see all calendar items but i can not change anything. I can't enter a new entry or change any other

Ensure that Lightning is updated to version 1.9. Older versions don't work with Thunderbird 17.
If you are using the Provider for Google Calendar extension: Ensure that it is updated to version 0.18. Older versions don't work with Lightning 1.9 and Thunderbird 17.
