User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:17.0) Gecko/17.0 Firefox/17.0 Build ID: 20121119183901 Steps to reproduce: Since version 17 Thunderbird ignores "Show the article summary instead of loading the web page" for all RSS feeds. It loads always the complete web page in the tab instead of the summary. Happens also in Safe Mode. (Until TB 16.0.2 summary view worked fine.)
Same here. Steps to reproduce: 1. Right-click on the "Blogs & News Feeds", select "Configuration" and make sure that "Show the article summary instead of loading the web page" is activated. Also, right-click on a feed folder, select "Subscribe" and make sure that "Show the article summary instead of loading the web page" for that folder is also active. Note: No feed configuration has been changed since the last working version 16.0.2. 2. Single-click on one of the feed folders and then on one of the feeds to view the respective article in the below pre-view pane. 3. Hit the return key to open the same article in a new tab Expected results: 2. Article summary gets opened in the below pre-view pane 3. Article summary gets opened in the new tab Actual results: 2. (as expected) 3. Web page gets opened instead of the article summary (NOK) ------------------------------------------------ TB info (from the Help menu), German version: Allgemeine Informationen Name: Thunderbird Version: 17.0 User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:17.0) Gecko/17.0 Thunderbird/17.0 Profilordner: Ordner anzeigen (Lokaler Datenträger) Build-ID der Anwendung: 20121116131442 Aktivierte Plugins: about:plugins Build-Konfiguration: about:buildconfig Absturzberichte: about:crashes Speicherverwendung: about:memory E-Mail- und Newsgruppen-Konten account1: INCOMING: account1, , (imap) imap.gmx.net:993, SSL, passwordCleartext OUTGOING: mail.gmx.net:465, SSL, passwordCleartext, true OUTGOING: mail.gmx.net:465, SSL, passwordCleartext, false OUTGOING: mail.gmx.net:465, SSL, passwordCleartext, false OUTGOING: mail.gmx.net:465, SSL, passwordCleartext, false OUTGOING: mail.gmx.net:465, SSL, passwordCleartext, false OUTGOING: mail.gmx.net:465, SSL, passwordCleartext, false account2: INCOMING: account2, , (none) Local Folders, plain, passwordCleartext account3: INCOMING: account3, , (rss) Feeds, plain, passwordCleartext Erweiterungen Highlighter, 0.6.5, true, andre.rodier-highlighter@gmailcom Russian spellchecking dictionary, 0.4.4.1, true, ru@dictionaries.addons.mozilla.org United States English Spellchecker, 6.0, true, en-US@dictionaries.addons.mozilla.org Wörterbuch Deutsch (de-DE), Hunspell-unterstützt, 20120628, true, de_DE@dicts.j3e.de Wichtige modifizierte Einstellungen Name: Wert accessibility.typeaheadfind.flashBar: 0 browser.cache.disk.capacity: 1048576 browser.cache.disk.smart_size.first_run: false browser.cache.disk.smart_size_cached_value: 737280 browser.zoom.full: true extensions.lastAppVersion: 17.0 gfx.blacklist.suggested-driver-version: 6.14.10.5260 mail.openMessageBehavior.version: 1 mailnews.database.global.datastore.id: 19d79eb7-7865-4d82-a29e-3cbf82d5838 network.cookie.cookieBehavior: 2 network.cookie.prefsMigrated: true network.online: false places.database.lastMaintenance: 1353962385 places.history.expiration.transient_current_max_pages: 26585 places.history.expiration.transient_optimal_database_size: 42534666 print.print_printer: PDFCreator print.printer_PDFCreator.print_bgcolor: false print.printer_PDFCreator.print_bgimages: false print.printer_PDFCreator.print_command: print.printer_PDFCreator.print_downloadfonts: false print.printer_PDFCreator.print_edge_bottom: 0 print.printer_PDFCreator.print_edge_left: 0 print.printer_PDFCreator.print_edge_right: 0 print.printer_PDFCreator.print_edge_top: 0 print.printer_PDFCreator.print_evenpages: true print.printer_PDFCreator.print_footercenter: print.printer_PDFCreator.print_footerleft: &PT print.printer_PDFCreator.print_footerright: &D print.printer_PDFCreator.print_headercenter: print.printer_PDFCreator.print_headerleft: &T print.printer_PDFCreator.print_headerright: &U print.printer_PDFCreator.print_in_color: true print.printer_PDFCreator.print_margin_bottom: 0.393750011920929 print.printer_PDFCreator.print_margin_left: 0.5 print.printer_PDFCreator.print_margin_right: 0.5 print.printer_PDFCreator.print_margin_top: 0.393750011920929 print.printer_PDFCreator.print_oddpages: true print.printer_PDFCreator.print_orientation: 0 print.printer_PDFCreator.print_page_delay: 50 print.printer_PDFCreator.print_pagedelay: 500 print.printer_PDFCreator.print_paper_data: 9 print.printer_PDFCreator.print_paper_height: 11,00 print.printer_PDFCreator.print_paper_size_type: 0 print.printer_PDFCreator.print_paper_size_unit: 1 print.printer_PDFCreator.print_paper_width: 8,50 print.printer_PDFCreator.print_reversed: false print.printer_PDFCreator.print_scaling: 1,00 print.printer_PDFCreator.print_shrink_to_fit: true print.printer_PDFCreator.print_to_file: false print.printer_PDFCreator.print_unwriteable_margin_bottom: 0 print.printer_PDFCreator.print_unwriteable_margin_left: 0 print.printer_PDFCreator.print_unwriteable_margin_right: 0 print.printer_PDFCreator.print_unwriteable_margin_top: 0 security.OCSP.require: true security.ssl.renego_unrestricted_hosts: mail.gmx.net security.ssl.require_safe_negotiation: true Grafik Karten-Beschreibung: Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator 3150 Vendor-ID: 8086 Geräte-ID: a011 Karten-RAM: Unknown Karten-Treiber: igxprd32 Treiber-Version: 6.14.10.5134 Treiber-Datum: 9-24-2009 WebGL-Renderer: Wurde auf Grund Ihrer Grafiktreiberversion blockiert. It is not anymore possible to use RSS in a useful way in TB 17. This massively annoying bug was introduced with TB 17. Since TB is not actively developed anymore does that mean that this bug will stay forever now?
Severity: normal → major
I'm sorry for waking you up from your sweet slumber, but TB 17.0.2 didn't fix this major bug. May I hope for 17.0.3 or will this bug now stay forever, making RSS unusable?
The > It is not anymore possible to use RSS in a useful way in TB 17. means following in my case: It is not possible to open a feed article in a separate tab *without an internet connection* - the "Error: Offline Mode" will be shown, as TB will try to open the web page instead of the configured article summary in the new tab. So that one is restricted to the preview pane instead. For a heavy user of feed articles offline (on a netbook with a small screen size) like me, that is a significant issue. Also, even when online, I prefer not to use Thunderbird for opening web pages for security reasons, having configured TB to only show article summary instead (which doesn't work due to this bug), and using a securely configured Firefox to open the related web page if necessary. --------------------------------- I guess that the bug status could now be set to "NEW" and platform changed to "All" (WinXP in my case).
Rotis, it might help, as bug submitter (I don't have the rights), setting the "Component" field of the bug to "General" (which is the default) instead of specifying one, and let the developers specify one correctly. (It could be e.g. the product "MailNews Core", component "Feed Reader", etc.) Otherwise, it could be that, due to your specification, the correct people are not copied on your submissions and the bug will be ignored, as no one of the ones getting the copy feels responsible.
OK, I have set now Component:General and Platform:All. The bug status I cannot set to NEW, only to UNCONFIRMED or RESOLVED.
Component: Message Reader UI → General
OS: Mac OS X → All
Hardware: x86 → All
Latest development (TB 17.0.4, summary view): Opening several RSS articles in tabs leads to 1) randomly some feeds are opened as webpage others as summary 2) leads to crashes of Thunderbird. - This bug is not only annoying but severe. I hope someone will go on and fix it!
(In reply to Rotis from comment #7) > Latest development (TB 17.0.4, summary view): Opening several RSS articles > in tabs leads to 1) randomly some feeds are opened as webpage others as > summary 2) leads to crashes of Thunderbird. - This bug is not only annoying > but severe. I hope someone will go on and fix it! I can reproduce the point 1 easily on my current slow internet connection (comparable to a dial-up): When an additional article is opened in a new tab while another is loading, the loading of the latter stops and its summary is displayed. To reproduce: - Double click on a feed article headline to open it in new tab -> Tab opens and article web page begins loading (instead of showing its summary - the problem reported in this bug) - While the above tab is loading, go back to the main TB tab and double click on another article -> Another tab is opened and downloading of the article (web page) begins - Now go to the first opened article tab -> The web page loading stopped and article summary is displayed I can't reporduce the point 2 (crash of TB) though.
Hello Rotis, I just found out on the Mozilla forum ( http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=12505301#p12505301 ) that following needs to be done: - Mark a feed article - Go to menu "Message" -> "Open Feed Message" and set it to the summary You'll only need to do that once, the setting will stay. This is probably an additional configuration introduced in TB 17, to be able to separately configure how the article is displayed in a new tab/window. It's a pity that it was not widely communicated to the users (or at least I didn't get the memo). Or the setting, for some reason, changed itself during the update. Feel free to set this bug to "RESOLVED". Your comment 7 and my comment 8 seem to describe another issue when "web page" is configured instead of the "summary" above, but that is a different story, not covered by this bug. (And I personally don't care for it. :) )
Thank you, Joe Smith. Works for me now. :)
